Mettenberger was definitely Garcia II Saturday night. We'll see if Mett is a one shot wonder like Garcia was.

You didn't even bother with learning what heretofore means, did you? How much more can I spoon-feed you these clues & hints before I start to wonder if the G in my username stands for Gerber, bro?

Either way, this is your chance. The last word in the thread. Will you man up and bring some awesomely (weak) sauce yet again? Let's have at it, man! You're doing so badly in this thread I'm almost looking foward to it as much as the next few days when you'll angrily respond to me in threads trying to bait me into revisiting this amazing tale of FAIL you've weaved here this morning!

when you have a 270 fullback that can take out whomever he chooses, you have to play a heavy defense all the time, yep the Bama secondary is vulnerable, but mostly because of the game that LSU played.

Mett had the game of his life. Go back and watch him put on the best passing show of the season. For the most part the secondary was in the proper coverage. Mett just made the throws that he was brought in to throw. Sometimes Qbs have a Payton M game and there is nothing you can do.
You can't lose the players in their secondary and not have a drop off. They are still good, just not as good.

i agree. he played a great game. Its not a reason for bama fans to panic. Mett should be given lots of credit. your boy GFunk just wants to flame people and make bad arguments so that he will feel better about himself this morning.

It's hard to find any faults with Bama. But I do think they blitzed too much. It wasn't working and Mett was doing a great job finding one on one coverages. You are asking a lot of your secondary to cover WRs one on one all game. Gotta hand it to LSU though, great playcalling with a balanced offensive attack, and the pass protection, which was a concern going into the game, really did well against the Bama pass rush.

I want to see what A&M can do against Bama's defense.... I think we're heading for an Oregon/Bama BCS Title game... if TAMU can have some success spreading the field and letting Manziel and Co. operate in space, then Oregon can do so as well.

Agreed with you on everything but your last sentence. The A&M/Bama tilt will be interesting, though I think Bama wins.

I also think its Bama/UO in Miami. But Sumlin/Kingsbury are modified Air-Raid from Leach & Mumme. Chip Kelly's Spread attack is nothing like that. They are ground-based with some passing thrown in. DAT, Mariotti & Barner are ground-game burners.

Two different variations of offense from the same wide-splits out of your OL do not make both a similar type of Spread Offense.

I understand they are two different spread systems built from different philosophies.... but there is a level of similarities -- pace of play being a big one.

We had success in the 2nd half of the 2010 Iron Bowl with going up-tempo after a first down... both teams have to make the bigger linebackers move in space.

Should be fun.

I think the middle of the field will be vulnerable for Alabama. I think A&M will see that LSU had some success with the TE & with a few middle routes even with Bama in their Nickel Packages & Mosely on the field as their "pass coverage" LB in the 34 front.

A&M attacked LSU early with edge passing on short-comeback routes off a vertical release off the line. They'd come back with fakes off that look to run some shot-gun sweeps & mix in a bit of dancing around from Johnny JJ.

When LSU switched to a 3 man front & only kept 3 Linebackers in, Manziel got really confused on the pressure looks we gave him. We were sending the blitz off the edge a ton but he wasn't sure whether it was the LB or the DB coming and with the Ends playing contain we really neutralized him. Couple that with the coverage downfield and we waited for him to make mistakes or throw it away, which he did.

The thing that impressed me was LSU's DE played contain but still didn't do much against that Tackle duo. They are very talented on the edges of their OL and if they can pick up pressure against Bama, I think those LB's are going to get worn out with the tempo. They could move the ball using the middle of the field which would set up some edge stuff.

It'll take a Herculean effort, but I think the blocking schemes & the way that Bama attacks the A&M front will be very useful for Chip Kelly if they can avoid stubbing their toe from here on out.

agreed...and the stage won't be too big for Oregon... they've been to three straight BCS games (two rose bowls and a BCSNCG)... they know what they did wrong two years ago and can adjust their planning/prep accordingly.

K-State and ND are good teams, but they'll wilt under that kind of pressure imo (heck, ND almost did saturday).

Alabama's secondary is good and was in good position for most of the night. The reason that LSU had success was that Mett was putting the ball in the exact right spot. That touchdown pass could not have been defended.

No other quarterback will do that to us this year. Not even Murray.

If this game were earlier in the season, I think bama would be working Collins into Sunserie's spot. He looked slow on Saturday. Whenever he was on the slot and we ran an out he was not quick enough to get there. Granted Mett has a pretty good arm and were putting those passes right where they needed to be.
