I have to admit that is one of the big reasons i had(other than your fanbase in general)to grant admission to post on this board.

My thinking is you will reak havoc on in SEC bastekball. You have all the tools, tradition,to make a name in the top tier of SEC basketball.

So,tell me what is your outlook as far as basketball is concerned and where do you think you will fit as a fanbase.

ETA:I think your time will come in football, being in the East and once you get a "feel" of how things work in this league you will prosper.

I really think we will win the conference in Bball. Wouldnt be surprised if we dont, but I think we will. We will see how it plays out though. UK are the NCs but they are bringing in a bunch of new guys. While that worked for them before, I dont think that is something that would have happened very often. FL may rise up, and Tenn will prob be decent but we will see what happens.

Never under estimate what Cal can do with"One and doners".I learned this lesson the hard way.He can take those kids and make them preform like a well oiled machine.Maybe thats his mindset, because most kids nowdays want to jump straight to the NBA.
I think you guys will fare well too,Anderson left you with lots of talent,i think you will do very well.

I sure hope you are right, it will certainly be a smoother transition than our football program is experiencing. I think down the road we could establish very nice hoops rivalries with Arkansas and Kentucky.

Mark me down on this one. Florida will win the SEC conference title.

The SEC has flown under the radar as far as basketball. You have Vandy who beat Kentucky last year for the SEC title, then you have Florida who made it deep into the dance. Then you have Bama, this is the one team that will supprise some folks this year. Florida is stacked, Kentucky is stacked, Vandy is stacked, Mizzou is stacked. Bama is in better shape than last year and on the rise. Arkansas may supprise some people.

No, it won't be an easy road this year. It may be just as tough as the B12 was last year.

When you guys had the big 12 tourney what was that like atmoshpere wise?

I know you will be ready for the round robin (league schedule) seems your already acustomed to that.
Its the SEC tourney that has that NCAA feel to it.Every schools fanbase will represent. To me it kinda gets your team ready for the dance. Was wondering if the Big 12 had that same feel.

I believe Mizzou will either win the SEC...or finish second. Anything less in my mind is unacceptable......

I don't know if it's because of the way that the football season has started, but I have tempered my basketball expectations. I feel confident that we will be a top 4 type team in the SEC, but really, there are soooooooo many new pieces to this team, until I see them play together as a unit I'm not about to say we're going to oust the defending NC's.

Florida is every bit as competitive as we are. Vandy will be solid though I don't think they have the talent to actually win it all over the course of the long haul. Tennessee will improve but I'm still not sold on Martin. We'll see. Bama will be much improved this year. I think Anderson will improve the program in Arkansas and will create a fun to watch style but a style that can't win it all either. Frank will create havoc at USCe because he has a way of getting teams out of their game.

I guess I'm saying there are a lot of teams that could beat us on any given night and I don't see walking in and taking over a conference as a given.

I live basicaly in KC, and have not been to a conference tourny here. It always seems something came up or could'nt afford to go. So I can't give a first hand perspective on the atmosphere.

I can tell you though, sports fans around here are basketball starved and they from what I've seen and heard pack the Sprint arena and there is an area called The Power and Light District that is right next to the arena and consists of bars, clubs, eateries ect. They usualy have planned happenings and outside parties during conf. Tourny time. They block the streeta ect. for this. I guess you could say it's a party style atmosphere. Neat area and nice arena.

UK is a recruiting powerhouse, FL is getting top 20 talent, UT and ARK are getting better, MO will have to up its recruiting to maintain its place as one of the better teams in the SEC. Transfers have been good for us so far, I'm still waiting to see if they can pull that 5 star stud out of HC, and I sure hope we get williams today.

That atmosphere at the Sprint Center for MU's Big 12 Tournament games last year was amazing. We don't have any expectations for an SEC tournament to be the same.

Big 8/12 Tournament in KC was always awesome. It's one of the few things I will probably miss about the leaving the Big Bevo. It was just a great atmosphere for those few days, especially if kU/kSU/and MU ha good teams. Kemper Arena and the Sprint Center would just be rocking for a few days, with beer gardens outside and people getting bombed.

I honestly expect the SEC tournament to not be even close to as good, but I hope I'm wrong.

Most Mizzou fans have not abandoned our support for football program, but also can think ahead to basketball season. I do think Mizzou bball will add a spark to SEC competition. I believe we have the talent to rank in top 3 or 4 overall. We only get to play UK once, at their home court. So that could be a factor in the race for ranking.

Not sure what SEC expectation is for a fan base. I can't address the number who travel to away games, because I haven't done it. But COMO will be a great atmosphere.

Big 12 Tourney was always an awesome experience. Of course, it helped that three colleges were close to KC, with lots of fans in the metro area. SEC Tourney will most likely be far enough away to cut down on number of traveling Mizzou fans.

Mike Anderson had not done much back up recruiting for Mizzou. Most of his recruits are gone. Haith has turned out to be a very good coach. 2012-13 has the potential to be a very special season.

I'm not buying into Florida at all until they can show me who their new starting point guard will be and whether he's worth a damn. Yes, Young, Murphy and Boynton are good players, but we've seen first hand in the later part of the Quin years how that can all go to hell without a good PG to get them the ball and run the team. And we saw last year how having great PG play can elevate a team that might otherwise have major weaknesses like size and depth.

Right now Florida's options at point guard are either a dude named Scotty Wilkebon or something who averaged 2 points and 1.5 assists last year ( ) or one of two incoming freshmen. That is pretty dicey. If all of them fail, they might have to slide Boynton over to the PG spot which is not what they want. You want him free to be a scorer.

IF they get that sorted out Florida can be a force. But if they don't, and if their ballhandling and passing is not up to par due to lack of any established floor leaders, they may not improve on last year at all and instead just tread water.

I grew up in MO in the 1980s and 1990s when the old Big Eight Tournament was in its heyday. At that time, it was AMAZING. It's apex was probably late 80s/early 90s when Mizzou, kansas, K-State, Iowa State were all good and Oklahoma State was starting to really get good too. Those five programs have great basketball fanbases that were all close enough to KC that they converged and just created an insane, carnival like atmosphere for three days. Last year's Big 12 tourney was like that again, first time in awhile.

But in many ways we'd already lost that. The Big 12 merger and the Texas/OU control of the league shoved our beloved hoops tourney down to Dallas and OKC half the time on a rotating schedule for quite awhile, and it killed the atmosphere and interest.

I think you have to look at this as one of the worst decisions made by the new Big 12. Having the Big 12 football championship game in St Louis was an equally baffling choice.

The conference could have been really solid if there was some strong leadership in the beginning. Instead parochial voices and opinions ruled the day.

Very true. How many SEC teams are ranked in the top 25, all I heard was UK and Mizzou. If that's true then that's very sad and disappointing to only get 2 ranked teams in the Top 25.

ETA: Ok I see Florida is ranked in there. At least the SEC picked up a good basketball school.
