I remember in the mid nineties to 2005/6ish, I couldn't imagine us losing to Bama.

For that reason I developed a hatred for UF ( I think most of us Knoxville kids that age did )
more then Bama due to the intensity of the games and the fights afterwards on the strip

Don't bring that up with the older generations though , all my dad and grandfather talk about is how much their dad and grandfather hated Bama. This rivalry goes back generations upon generations & is in our blood. It'd be a real shame if we lost this

Well, a big part of it is that our rivalry has always been pretty streaky. One of us goes on a run while the other seems to stay down.

I think that's a big part of why so many old timers on both sides have such a deep hatred for the other team. They remember both sides of the fence pretty clearly.

That's why even if you guys have the shittiest season known to man, or vice versa. We always give you guys the respect because we know win or lose, whose on the in or out in that point in time, it's going to be one hell of a game.

Yep. If you take the Fulmer years out, our rivalry always seemed to stem more from this kind of burning, omnipresent need to beat the other team than from the kind of poisonous hatred which exists between Alabama and Auburn. We just knew that the Tennessee game was crucial and that it had always been so, even if we never fully understood why it was so important.

Our rivalry was actually pretty cool up until that fat prick Fulmer fricked Coach Majors out of a job. Things just started getting too personal after that.

Tensions further built when, after both 1906 and 1907 contests, Auburn head coach Mike Donahue threatened to cancel the series if Alabama head coach "Doc" Pollard continued employing his elaborate formations and shifts.[4] The series was indeed suspended after the 1907 game when the schools could not come to agreement over the amount of expenses to be paid players, as well as from where officials for the game should be obtained

Thank God both schools have been able to figure out the amount of expenses to be paid players so this series has been able to continue

Hey Baylorf@g, we notice you. Now run along and pray that you find a defense sometime this decade.

Pussy.

Auburn played Florida, Georgia, Alabama and LSU every year and never complained about it (actually, we want Florida back). One year we also played Tennessee on top of the other Big 4.

just how important is Bama/UT that the rest of the conference has to bend over backwards

it's not but where is the Conference located again?

if the game is that precious to you, play an OOC Bama/UT game when it's not on the conference schedule

yeah that's been pushed by the other 10 or so for years, no takers, but it's oh so important

Big 4, get over it. Alabama and Tennessee will play every year as long as the SEC exists.

Which is why the solution has always been take care of the third Saturday game and tell Auburn and Georgia to go to hell. If Bama and UT get what they want, the coalition will be big enough to fix the problem and UGA and AU will just have to take it.

I think the best way to effectuate that is to swap UT with Arkansas. Let them be in the East with Mizzou. Geographically hilarious, but at least you can play everyone.

I say move UA/AU to east and Mizzou/Vandy to west. They can rival all they want.

Seriously though, why don't Bama and UT do this. Baseball does this and it works out fine.

It makes sense. They keep their game and we finally get to play Georgia more than twice every 12 years. Why turn it down?
