They would try to snub their nose at the other teams in the division and outside of a trip to Austin would be a bad fit.

They would be Auburn. The parallels are startling.

athletically (football) they'd be OK and would challenge for the SEC title from time to time.

otherwise, esp. fan wise, they would have to leave because the rest of the conference would boycott until they got kicked out. i would just as soon sit in a small room with chain smoking life ins. salesmen on speed than with a group of tejas fans.

Texas has the best recruiting setup in college football and it's not really that close. Given quality coaching, there's no reason they shouldn't consistently compete. That doesn't mean they would always win, though. There are multiple SEC programs that could compete with them with a competent coach, but Texas would be the least likely to fall completely off the radar and easiest to bring back.

Die. UT can eat a bag of EBOLA DICK. The only fan base that top PSU and Bama Combined for annoying. At least bama fans are game for the back and forth and generally we have a good time with it. UT fans and that school epitomze frick-head. rant/

No need for the hypothetical. They will lose in Oxford this season.

In a scenario where they left the Big 12 behind like Texas A&M did, but retained the OU game? It would put them at the pinnacle of the college football world. In my opinion they would shine. It would really polarize the Lone Star State behind them even more than it already is, and they would be 1980s Miami-esque. It would completely marginalize the rest of the state(especially Texas A&M) and give college football a national focus that would rival the NFL.

Sucks for them that they are too short sighted and Texas A&M has stopped them from ever reaching that potential.

Thanks and Gig em.

They'd compete for the division most years. Not the past two years, but most years.

Outside of normal ups and downs Texas would compete for a run every year. Their money recruiting advantage and news media would do everything to make it happen.
