*** You do not have to read. You do not have to troll. You do not have to flame. You did not even have to click the thread. Comments such as "Horrible thread" will be pointless as they will be ignored or RA'd. If you do not wish to see McCarron’s stats on the road compared to his stats at home, then this is not the thread for you and you should just leave now. Here is hoping for a friendly discussion, and potentially more SEC QB comparisons.***

Here is the link ranking pass defenses a year ago : LINK

Note that South Alabama can be seen early on in the list. The site has added the teams coming to the FBS this season to that list. You have to remove them to get accurate numbers. Example : If you count South Alabama, PSU’s Pass defense is ranked 5th, and not 4th.

@ PSU : 19/31 for 163 yards and a Touchdown. (PSU had the 4th best Pass Defense in the FBS last season)

@ UF : 12/25 for 140 yards (UF had the 7th best Pass Defense in the FBS last season)

@ OM : 19/24 for 224 yards and a Touchdown. (OM had the 21st best Pass Defense in the FBS last season)

@ MSU : 14/24 for 163 yards and an INT. (MSU had the 23rd best Pass Defense in the FBS last season)

@ Auburn : 18/23 for 184 yards and 3 Touchdowns. (AU had the 43rd best Pass Defense in the FBS last season)

@ LSU (Neutral site) : 23/34 for 234 yards. (LSU had the 13th best Pass Defense in the FBS last season.)

The average rank of the pass defenses McCarron played on the road is 18.5, or, after rounding it’d be 19th.

On the road : 105/161 (65.2%) for 1108 yards and 5 Touchdowns with 1 INT. On the road he had a Passer Rating of 132.

vs. KSU : 14/23 for 226 yards and a Touchdown with 2 INTs. (KSU had the 26th best Pass Defense in the FBS last season.)

vs. NT : 15/21 for 190 yards. (NT had the 101st best Pass Defense in the FBS last season.)

vs. Ark : 15/20 for 200 yards and 2 Touchdowns. (Arky had the 27th best Pass Defense in the FBS last season.)

Vs. Vandy : 23/30 for 237 yards and 4 Touchdowns. (Vandy had the 33rd best Pass Defense in the FBS last season.)

vs. UT : 17/26 for 284 yards and a Touchdown with an INT. (UT had the 10th best Pass Defense in the FBS last season.)

vs. LSU : 16/28 for 199 yards and an INT. (LSU had the 13th best Pass Defense in the FBS last season.)

vs. GSU : 14/19 for 190 yards and 3 Touchdowns. (We’re not going to count GSU in the final Home product because they were an FCS team with one of the worst pass defenses in the FCS. If you want to see how he did against them though, there ya go.)

The average rank of the pass defenses McCarron played at home is 35th.

At home : 100/148 (67.6%) for 1336 yards and 8 Touchdowns with 4 INTs. At home he had a Passer Rating of 155.8

At home, AJ played better, however he faced weaker defenses. It’s worth noting that on the road he played in intense environments such as Happy Valley, the Swamp, the New Orleans Super Dome full of LSU fans, Starkville with their Cowbells, and JHS on Iron Bowl weekend.

You could break it down further too.

By quarters:

1st 77 of 109 for 988 yds 70.6%
2nd 70 of 108 for 649 yds 64.8%
3rd 60 of 92 for 875 yds 65.2%
4th 12 of 17 for 122 yds 70.6%

He was money when the other defenses were at their most rested and fired up. Dropped a little when adjustments were made, then money to finish out again. Seeing how little he had to pass in the fourth last year is showing how well Bama's offense was in creating a large lead, so there was no need to pass in the final quarter. I expect it will be very similar this year.

We will have leads in the fourth, but I think his numbers through the first three quarters will be enough to get 3,000 yards and 22ish TDs. If we play 14 games it'd be a lock. Even with 13 though, he should get those numbers.

I'm not taking away from what he did in January but I would take this off as a road game TBH. It was at least 40% Bama fans in the Dome that night.

I'm pretty sure they said during the game it was more like 25%.

This would be a good trend, hopefully making SecRant better than other sites, At present it seems ButtHurtNation/TidefansLite is dwindling a bit. Maybe it will continue.

Probably the key stat. AJ took a step forward in performance. I guess the question is will this be the norm for 2012. I tend to think it will be, maybe with even more improvement.

I doubt that. I was there and Bama definitely had more than 25%. The Bama section took up almost half the Dome.

I expect him to have a few 300 yard games. One problem last year was his deep touch. I've seen numerous reports about how Nuss helped his mechanics in his deep touch motion.

Ah, I didn't go. Bama still acted as he road team though, and I wanted it to be an even number of games on both sides. I could've just said "In BDS" and "Not in BDS".

I think K. Bell will be the leading reciever this year because of the deep ball. I can see a small drop in his completion percentage, but an increase in his yardage due to going downfield more this year. I think he'll be Bama's first QB to break the 3000 yard mark in passing this year.

eta- his avg attempts per game last season was 25.2 per game. I think that will be closer to 30 this yr.

So he's better at home than on the road. Shocking.
