This. Our big fat slow LB at the combine ran a 4.6 forty yard dash. Big =\= Slow. During the BCS Championship we routinely had one LB force the pitch and chase down and tackle the pitchman behind the line of scrimmage.

Scott Cochran runs one of the best S&C programs in the country. No idea where this myth of Bama having slow out of shape linebackers came from.

I think it was trash talk before the November game that caught on with people who don't know what they are watching when they watch football.

ETA: unless he joking.

I started playing in the 3rd grade in Baton Rouge,

Played HS in Okalahoma City....broke leg in final game in front of Chuck Faibanks who was scouting...

Played 3 years Semi-Pro Football in Texas...FWIW

I know the title stired the pot for you Gumps....But the truth is, everyone will have to adapt when these spreads get up to full speed in the SEC.

So do you think Craig James knows what he is talking about with his cutting edge analysis?

There is something poetic about someone who belittles people for not understanding his posts and then doesn't know the difference between basic vocabulary words.

my team has a lot of titles. but, you're right on the having to adapt stuff, but, i'm sure most of the sec teams are up to this challenge...

Yep, the same Georgia Southern team that scored more points against Alabama in one quarter than LSU did in eight quarters.

Why do you think Nick Saban switched to a 3-4 defense, and the multiplicity it has, when he came to Alabama in 2007? Did Urban Meyer's use of the spread become ancient past?

I was under the impression that Alabama didn't do as well against Georgia Southern because the combination of not having seen a triple option since the 70's, playing mostly second teamers, and not wanting to put a lot of preparation into the gameplay given the Auburn game the next week left Alabama a little flat. Not to mention, they were actually one of the best FCS schools last year. Most people who have played, or better yet coached, have said that the top FCS teams are not much worse than middle of the road FBS teams. But they surely have less insight than the man who jests.

Regardless, I'm sure that we can call on Besr Bryant's ghost for help in defending this offense of the future.

to one of the smartest and most articulate posters on the secr, someone who can find poetry in the most mundane and crappy sec rants then, just lay the hammer down.

It's an offense that takes extreme discipline and a multitude of reps in defending. Most of our guys hadn't seen that offense since they were in high school. And certainly had never seen it with college athletes, FCS or not.

Why is Georgia Southern even relevant to a discussion about how spread offenses will soon dominate the best defensive units in the SEC?

I didn't bring them into the discussion.
