Why? I'd put UF, Auburn and LSU before them. Why is UGA so important?

The answer is UF.

Alabama put southern football on the map and is the only "historically dominant" program in the conference..like it or not

UF is located in the south's most populous state, the loss of an SEC presence there would negatively affect the conference as much as the loss of alabama would

I'm assuming you're talking football because the only other thing you frickers can hang your hat on is gymnastics.

Tennessee. UT and UA were the rocks upon which the SEC was built.

If the Tide wanted to leave tomorrow Slive and the league would say 'bye' and not miss a beat, as would be the case for any program in the conference. If one program were to leave, the one that would be most missed would be Vandy, imo. They represent what is best about the SEC.

UF is the only public school in the SEC on the AAU list.
