Today's update. Obviously Kentucky and Florida are locks, with Vandy almost certainly getting a bid. Only other SEC schools mentioned are Alabama and Mississippi St.

Alabama [17-9 (6-6), RPI: 33, SOS: 19] A win over the 2011-12 Tennessee Volunteers rarely qualifies as "huge," but it did for Alabama this past weekend. The Crimson Tide were playing without their best two players. Tennessee was hot. The makings of a bubble-bursting loss were all there. But Bama got the short-handed win anyway. On Monday, coach Anthony Grant announced that he had suspended Tony Mitchell for the remainder of the season but would reinstate JaMychal Green. That's good news, because despite Alabama's solid computer numbers, a late-season, suspension-riddled slide could have been viewed as prohibitive by the committee. We'll see how Grant's team finishes up.

Mississippi State [19-8 (6-6), RPI: 54, SOS: 87] What on Earth happened to Mississippi State? The Bulldogs were chugging along in SEC play, looking solid if imperfect, when out of the blue, they started stacking bad losses. The first came at home to Georgia. The second came at LSU, which is understandable if not desirable. But it looked even worse after Saturday, when Rick Stansbury's team lost 65-55 at Auburn. Huh? The Bulldogs still have that win at Vanderbilt to fall back on, but the best nonconference win -- West Virginia -- doesn't look so great these days, and the computer numbers (particularly that sub-180 nonconference schedule) don't speak highly of this team, either. With the steamroller that is Kentucky coming to town Tuesday night, Arnett Moultrie & Co. need to figure it out. And quickly.

Edit: Nevermind. Realized it was today's update.. not sure what really makes it different from Sunday's update though.

I don't know what is Germans, unless it's the "five max" thing. I just meant 5 teams with a possibility now that Ole Miss and Arky are out and LSU still not gaining traction.
It's updated on Fridays and Tuesdays

So what the heck happened here? Is Tony Mitchell gone for good? How is Grant viewed in Tuscaloosa?

Grant's insanely popular in Tuscaloosa. BTW welcome to three weeks ago.

surely no one thought Arkansas or LSU had a legit shot at the tourney

My guess is Mitchell doesn't play again, but there's an out for him to come back if he wants to stop being a moron.
Basically he pouted and whined all year. According to Grant it was an "accumulation" of things and while these are only leaks it appears that the final straw was him getting into it with a trainer/assistant coach during and after the Ole Miss game. Most people are glad to see him go, but if he grew up a bit he'd be a good player to have around next year.
As for Grant, its just like most places. Some people are totally convinced and some people bitch about every little thing. Most people are in between, but I'd say the opinion of him is generally favorable. But he needs to get us back to being a consistent tournament team.

Arkansas no, especially after last week. LSU, well, the Rant has it's fair share quite frankly. I'm not even talking rantards. Granted, they seem to think conference standings is pretty much the only criteria, so they don't seem very knowledgable on the subject

Mitchell done for the year. No word about next year even though he is a junior. Mitchell had a prima donna attitude but there has to be more to the story that is presently unknown to the public. Mitchell suspended for "conduct detrimental to the team" based on an "accumulation of things." No one knows for sure why Green, Releford and Steele were suspended.
Grant is presently viewed as a disciplinarian who is in charge of his program like a new "sheriff" taking over a rogue program left behind by CMG.
There will be few repercussions if he gets this team into the tournament, and his team certainly responded with a huge win over Tennessee. Team is 2-2 without Mitchell, beating TN and AU and losing to LSU (4 suspensions) and FL.

LSU is still in the discussion but Arkansas is NIT bound. In fact, ARKY is just what NIT wants, mediocre team, rabid fanbase, huge arena. NIT has become a cash cow and NIT wants to milk Hogs.
woohhh piggg sueyyy Razorbacks!
