Wimp was having an affair with his secretary named Nancy Watts. Supposedly it had been going on for a long time and word was his wife, Annette, knew about it. Something happened either right after the '92 SEC tourney or NCAA tourney and he knocked the hell out of her.
This was the time of the Pat Dye/Auburn and Eric Ramsey saga. Funny bumper sticker I saw one time that fall going to the LSU-Auburn game was "Auburn--we may pay our players, but we don't beat our women".
BTW,Ms. Watts got married, or re-married about 10 years ago to--CM Newton.![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconconfused.gif)

I remember when he coached at UA-Little Rock, he did the "Wimp Sanderson Show" with "all smiles" Steve Sullivan. I think Wimp frowned the entire show. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

I'll say this for Wimp...there aren't many coaches who can throw a temper tantrum as well as he did many times during games. He can really fire up a crowd. Damn good coach too, IMO.

This is correct and they have lived in Tuscaloosa for the last several years. I was in Tuscaloosa for the 2010 A-day game. Went by Northriver Yacht Club the next day (absolutely beautiful weather at the time) and they happened to be hosting the SEC Women's Golf Championship Tournament and saw C.M. Newton and Sarah Patterson among others watching groups finish up at the 18th green. C.M. was my uncle's former head coach.
I think UA President Dr. Witt also married a local Tuscaloosa women that I think is a UA faculty member if I'm not mistaken.

he won more than any other Bama coach. Criticize him all you want but hell else do we got? He won 3 straight SEC tournament titles, only UK has ever done that

I think he was innocent. I really like the guy and think he was telling the truth. Jilted lover causing problems IMO.
One of the saddest days in Bama sports for me, was the day he was fired.
12 yrs HC at Bama
- 9 SEC title game appearances
- 5 SEC tourney championships
- 11 post season tourneys
- 10 twenty plus win seasons
- sweet sixteen six times
- always had a team that played hard and was fun to watch

he was a victim of the way the media and public works now days. If you're accused of something, you're automatically guilty.

he had the bama BB program in better shape than the FB. Every game was a sell out, and it was party time. Either perkins or curry was the fb coach. The best team bama had drew Indy in the 16 and lost a close game to the team who won the NC.
He was a great coach, too bad he was fired.

Also lost to the UNC Jordan/Worthy Title team, could have won that game.
12 years under Sanderson = 6 sweet sixteens, 5 SEC titles
19 years since = 1 sweet sixteen, O SEC titles

I think you're talking about CM Newton. Newton was coach when Bama lost to that Indiana team.

Secretary Slaps Wimp Sanderson With a Lawsuit
NEWSWIRE
July 08, 1992|From Staff and Wire Reports
Former Alabama basketball Coach Wimp Sanderson slapped his secretary, Nancy Watts, when she told him to beware of a rumored affair with a colleague, she said in a suit filed Tuesday in Birmingham.
The suit against Sanderson, Athletic Director Hootie Ingram and school trustees claims Watts was required to work "in a hostile environment which was tainted by impermissible sex and gender discrimination."
Sanderson resigned May 18 after 13 seasons when reports of the alleged attack became public. Also, she said he slapped her at her home 2 1/2 years earlier.
She reported both instances to the school's personnel director, Watts said, adding that Ingram and other university people knew that Sanderson treated female employees differently from male employees but took no steps to correct the conditions.
