Everyone is. But with Alabama and the amount of different formations, your chances of screwing up and giving the ball back to us rises dramatically.

Nope. And they have the stats to show it. And stats is all that matter.

Sure, potentially everyone is. But, I ask because LSU maintained its composure and stamina against Oregon.
I know LSU is not an up tempo offense, but I wonder if the hosses on Bama's D could keep up, even if used selectively.

really running an up tempo offense against either LSU or Alabama can be counterproductive. they have the defensive depth and ability to be able to cope no matter the tempo and when the hurry up fails all you have done is hurt your defense
see Georgia vs Boise State and LSU. they completely lost any offensive momentum and left their defense out to dry with no rest

Auburn was very effective with it last year. Caught us with 12 men on the field a couple of times.

Good point dog. The up tempo offense has to move the chains.
It will interesting to see if we have any wrinkles against this ironclad D.

I think they are susceptible to the pass. The only passing team they played all year was ARK and Petrino did his typical choke job when it comes to bama. If Jefferson has any type of passing game, it will be a two TD margin of victory.

Yes, as we all know JJ has never completed a pass on Bama. This is a fact much like Bama's win on Nov 5.

DGD, did you just suggest Boise had depth?

Generally, an up tempo offense can be easy to figure out. They don't have many plays to pick from. Play sound defense - and wait for them to screw up. Communication problems have been evident playing up tempo offenses. As soon as LSU figured out Texas A&M (last year), Oregon, and West Virginia, it was game over.

no, i was saying that boise completely dominated our offense and our defense, which was holding them, eventually gave way. if you watch that game and the LSU game you will see how remarkably similar they are, really. georgia came out hitting both in the mouth and stopping their offense and our offense had an initial surge and then went straight to hell and both teams wore our defense down while our hurry up basically created 1 min 3 and outs and the rest is history

Hopefully JJ has his typical bowl game. This game like a lot will be won in the trenches. Both teams will be ready...... To quote Bart Scott " CAN'T WAIT"

Any defense can be, if an uptempo offense gets on a roll against any defense and continues to drive it can put the defense on its heels.

In comparison to other defensive strategies, I would say that the Bama D is actually designed specifically to combat up tempo offenses. The defense was built with the spread and no huddle in mind really. You'll never see the Bama D huddle up because you can't do it when playing an uptempo team so the coaching staff doesn't want to make it a habit. Also, there are different color-coordinated personnel groupings for different situations, even if it's the same or a similar play call, so after a play all the coaches have to do is call a color and the right guys come off the field and the right ones come on the field (offenses are required to give the defense adequate time to substitute as we saw last year in the Oregon-AU game).
The structure itself is designed to be effective against this strategy, after that it all depends on the players.
