Mathieu starts opposite of Claiborne right now, he moves down to nickel when we go to 3 corners with Simon taking his outside spot. If Claiborne were to leave after this year the defense next year in 4-3 would be Simon and Mathieu starting at corner. In nickel Mathieu would move down to nickel and Jenkins will be opposite Simon more than likely. In dime I think it's going to be a battle between Micah Eugene and Ronnie Vinson for that dime spot. Vinson is a great talent IMO.

I don't quite get why people are this confident in Simon. The guy is solid, no doubt, but I think his length hurts him on underneath routes and hitches. He's not going to be a Thorpe finalist IMO.

I'm not sure that he will be able to be as aggressive in coverage or used in so many different ways next season unless another CB really steps up. Part of the reason that Mathieu could be so aggressive this season is that Mo could play the other teams best WR with no help. This allowed Chavis to do a lot of different things with TM7 and catered to his aggressiveness since he often had help on his side.

Because he embarrasses receivers on deep routes, is big and physical, and is a beast of a tackler. He dropped a bunch of easy interceptions this year or he would have led the team. He did get beat a few times underneath but who doesn't? He didn't give up anything big all year.

he'll play nickel when we are in nickel and dime as always. he'll move outside when we are in a base defense (which is fairly rare).

Finally someone got it right. Although it's not "fairly rare" for LSU to be in a 4 DB formation.

I think he stays at nickel for sure, he is most effective there and gives him the best chance to be around the ball. LSU has recruited the shite out of the corner position and I think Jenkins fills in at the open spot albeit with a ton of competition. This is actually a really good question considering most outside of LSU think TM is a corner and barely recognize the ability of Simon who is really the next great cb at LSU. TM is an unusual player and needs to be able to freelance do to his uncanny ball skills.

If you can't tell I am one of the guys who love Simon unlike some Tiger fans, I just like big, athletic corners.

I think Bama is the only team that hadn't figured out the wildcat offense is over.

Claiborne gives up as many underneath routes as Simon. Simon does NOT get beat deep. If an offense plans to move the ball down the field on LSU with 8 yard curls then good luck to them.
