$100 million?

(Call me crazy, but I'd be tempted...)

To do it again at yet ANOTHER school....to feed his huge ego? Bama doesn't have the whole market on crystal balls.

Texas can't outbid Bama get serious! If UTex offered Saban 10mil a year Bama could easily match it... as high as Texas could go.. Bama could easily match it.

Saban is a steal at anything less than 15 mill a year. The impact he's had on the Bama economy school city and state are worth whatever figure UT could come up with. Why are y'all so simple?

UT is the #1 revenue school Bama is in the top 3-5 the gap ain't wide enough y'all act like Bama is some mid major small budget school. He's playing for his 2 title in 3 yrs and challenged for the title 3 of the last 4. He's not going anywhere for the hopes of more money.. all he's got to do is ask for a raise and it's done SON!

I don't doubt that they COULD based on financials, but if so, why haven't they in the last 30 years? Since Darrell Royal retired, they haven't been any better than Bama and have floundered even more so.

I think Texas thinks they're smarter than all the rest and they won't ever dominate football because of their academic arrogance.

Over the last 30 years, I can't think of a program with more resources that has done less.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda...they haven't yet.

In the next 2-3 years he will be gone, that's just how he is. We heard the same things after '03 and how much he loved it here (the 'CANDY' especially) and the big time money got him then. The 'ShortHorns' would go 6-7 mil right out of the gate, probably to 8 mil. Then there's all the other money, not to mention the lure of recruiting in the state.

It's not a pleasant thought, but sooner or later they all go. Enjoy it, relative to the process, while you can.

Yeah, you're probably right, but, Bama will survive without Saban, just like LSU did.

I don't want him to leave, but, it won't be the end of the world for Bama.

If true, it was a helluva ride.

And he leaves Bama like he left LSU (loaded), I'm pretty sure we can find a quality coach for 5 million/year to keep it going.

Should 'Bama win in NO, the Horns won't be able to get Macster out of town fast enough.

You're always a dick. So?

It's better to be a step below LSU and Bama than a step below Ole Miss. It's irrefutable that Petrino has turned around the program. No, we're not LSU. But who is?

You guys are fricking relentless with your constant need to talk down to EVERYONE.

The program wasn't nothing. Hog fans just resent Houston Nutt so much that they refuse to acknowledge any success he attained and attribute everything now to Petrino.

IDK, it took Bama nearly a quarter century to finally find a coach that they could all get behind.

Well.....they are on their 6th head coach this century!

Saban will be the bigger meltdown. Saban knows that he has no chance at another NC for quite awhile after this year's graduation. So he either stays with the Gumps where he has never truly been happy and takes a beatdown after losing in the BCSNC game, or moves on and becomes a Savior to another down program that can pay him more and give him anything he asks for including his own Network for recruiting in Texas........
Which would you do if you were him???
Say bye-bye Gump Nation!

It wasn't nothing, much in the same way that Ole Miss isn't NOTHING right now. The cupboard was BEYOND bare by the time Nutt left. He quit recruiting 2 years before he left.

Actually it's the opposite - Texas has the most money to spend AND the most to lose if they pick badly. IF they want Saban and the price tag is $100 million over 10 years, I don't believe Bama can match that.

To be fair to Bama, there's no other school that can outbid them, especially for their own coach. However, in this case, when the only language the coach speaks is "money", there is a real possibility. While I'm downgrading this from "very possible" to "not very likely", Sexton WILL get a final bid (personally I think all of the talk of $100 million IS Sexton's crazy number, just to see how close Texas can/will get, so he's fully armed for the Saban bonus/extension/raise talks), never underestimate the power of money in Saban's world.

Further, the window is closing - since I've never been convinced Bama is his last stop, his "last, last" stop has to be after the next move, or else he will be stuck in Bama until he quits. He's 60 and, realistically, he has about 36 months to make his final move.

I always take a grain of salt when I hear Arky or Bama or Florida people say that kinda thing

Building a program from nothing is what Bill Snider did at KSU. That place was a fricking wasteland with zero talent, zero history of success, and zero recruiting advantages (little brother school in a bad recruiting state)

Arkansas was in worse shape talent wise when Nutt left Ark, than Ole Miss is now. There is a reason Reggie Herring told Chris Mortenson he felt sorry for the next Defensive Cord. THe cubbard was as bear after the end of the 08 season as it had been in a long time here.
