What was that about? Said something about a close minded caller.

I got an email earlier about him hanging up on an Auburn caller and saying "we only want to discuss relevant teams"...

Don't know if that was the one or not...seemed like a really rude move...so, you know...typical Finebaum

I think it was his conversation with Jerry Palm. Finebaum has a habit of randomly picking a fight from time to time with one of his guests and this one came out of nowhere. Finebaum was actually trying to argue in favor of LSU getting a rematch with Bama if they lost a close game in 2 weeks. The scenario was that Boise State was one of the 2 undefeated teams and that LSU clearly deserved to have a rematch with Bama in that scenario. Finebaum sees the odds of a 1 loss Bama team getting a rematch as a much longer shot than LSU.

Palm basically used the Michigan/Ohio State game in 2006 as the precendent for why the Bama/LSU loser won't get the benefit of the doubt for a rematch. This offended Finebaum as he thinks LSU and Bama are much stronger #1 and #2 teams than Mich/OSU that year.

I'm a new listener, but I've already heard this with Coach Dye and Sheridan. Bizarre.

Just heard his reasons for this.

Thanks BTW

Finebaum is right due to the game being in Bama. If it were in Baton Rouge, the opposite would be true. However, as great as Bama is this year, I don't see LSU losing to anybody. I've definitely been wrong before though.

Florida got a Sugar Bowl rematch with #1 Florida State in the 1996 season after losing 24-21 in Tallahassee the final game of the regular season.

Florida won 52-20 on a neutral field in New Orleans.

A rematch isn't unprecedented.

It blows my mind that anyone would think that's a good idea at all, let alone argue like a blowhard to a distinguished guest like that.

I could post a tl;dr rant about how that is completely devoid of logic, but I'll spare you. But I don't care if Bama wins by 1 point and the next most viable option is a one loss Boise State and LSU is the only team with a snowball's chance in hell of blocking Bama from another National Championship. It's the stupidest thing possible to make an already flawed BCS system even more ridiculously flawed.

I honestly wouldn't be suprised by ANYTHING with that game. I can't remember 2 teams being almost identical the way this year's LSU and Bama teams are. They play their games the EXACT same way. In other words, they both "slow play" the opponent in the opening quarter or 2 and play like they could care less about the score. A play here and a play there and all of a sudden what seemed like a close game is now a 31-7 game.

The only differences I see is that LSU has more talented receivers and a stronger D line while Bama has a deeper backfield/better tight end and a stronger back 7 on defense. If you combined each team's strength no team could stay on the field with them.

There will be a few other 1 loss teams as well the entire nation minus the SEC would melt down if they picked a 1 loss LSU to play bama again with other 1 loss teams such as ok stat, oklahoma, wisconsin, stanford, ect.

If Stanford loses a game, they have no right to say they deserve to be in the game.

The key is for Oregon to be the other 1 loss team in contention. LSU would go over Oregon, IMO.

Yes, but why should the Bama/LSU loser be punished more than those other 1 loss teams just because the SEC has won the last few national titles. Wisconsin's loss wouldn't be as good as either Bama or LSU's. Oklahoma would have a far worse loss. OK State will have lost their last regular season game. Stanford's loss would end up being worse. I don't think it will be an issue because I don't see Stanford and Boise State losing again. Clemson could also easily finish undefeated.
