Well there has been some discussion on here about how we give the ball to Lattimore too much, that we are riding the poor kid so hard he won't have the ability to play in the NFL etc etc. Apparently Lattimore has heard the same thing and this is his response.

quote:

Marcus Lattimore wants the ball. Period.

Stated another way, the nation's No. 1 running back prospect for the Class of 2010 didn't sign with South Carolina to watch from the sidelines as somebody else carries the ball.

So Lattimore chuckles at the belief by some pundits the Gamecocks should limit his number of carries out of concern he might get worn down later in the season.

"My style of running is that when I get more carries, I get stronger," Lattimore said earlier this week. "It really doesn't matter to me."

The fourth quarter - the entire second half for that matter - has been Marcus Time for the Gamecocks in the first three games. Last Saturday night, USC threw the ball 15 times in the first half against Navy compared to 17 runs. Spurrier again asked Lattimore to carry the offensive load in the second half as USC ran the ball 27 times over the final 30 minutes, 24 by Lattimore.

"That's what every team should do, just run the ball in the fourth quarter," Lattimore said. "I've got the O-Line to do it."

Not sure if you need to pay to read the rest but here is the link. GamecockCentral

He also gave a quote the other day after his 246 yard day that he saw 300 yards out there, believing that he could've done more.

Simply put the man is a workhorse and an ironman and I don't think Lattimore would have it any other way.

Also I believe he is 8 TDs away from breaking Heisman Trophy winning George Rogers TD record here.

Brilliant, give him 40 carries every game. By the Arkansas game he'll barely be able to walk.

Great. Hopefully he'll be beat up for Arkansas just like he was last season.

edit: WG_Dawg beat me to it.

They'll love that the more mileage he gets the better he runs.

eta: Giving the ball to Lattimore is also complimenting the lack of Alshon stats. From what everyone seems to be hearing is that we are going to use Lattimore for the most part until someone stops them. Then hit them with a heavy dose of Alshon, especially those screens we love so much.

That may be true for the span of a game, but I don't think that logic applies to the span of a season.

So does Dyer. But, damn, Lattimore is carrying it enough as it is.

bullshite. He's gonna be the best back ever when he's 50 and still playing in the League.

It's possible. Haven't you seen Herschel? Heisman winner and MMA fighter.

ignore the haters, feed this kid the rock. otherwise USC ain't winning diddly

lattimore may be the only gamecock i have ever liked this much. he is a friggin beast and i would trade our backfield for just him easily. well then again i did also like captain munnerlyn but that was purely because his name was captain

Nah I wasn't trying to get into that debate. Was just using Herschel's incredible condition and physique at his age as a reference.

Just because the kid feels he can handle more, does not mean his body will hold up. Kid is mad good and hope Spurrier doesn't grant his wish.
