Well this comes out of legitimate interest, boredom, and the standard shameless promotion of one's own school.
Obviously every school has X amount of schools, subjects, fields of study etc. but most seem to have that 1 school that is far and away the best at the university and extends its influence far beyond state borders.
For SC its the Darla Moore school of business. It was recently ranked No.2 graduate international business program in the US. Making it the #1 for public schools. #1 overall was some small private specialty school in AZ. We are also #1 in the undergraduate international business specialty.
All of this is according to US News & World Report. (can't link I have the actual paper sitting in my lap :lol)
Darla Moore is a USC alum and one of our biggest donors, according to the article is also was the 1st woman ever to appear on the cover of Forbes Magazine. SC is also ranked in the top 100 over a few other things but nothing that approaches that high of a ranking.
So whats the "feather in the cap" academic school at your university?

That would be a tough one to pick for Auburn. The Vet School is one of the top ones in the nation, especially when it comes to raptors/birds of prey. Ag school is a given, but also the College of Engineering. CoE has turned out a lot of successful people, especially the aerospace program. I think Auburn may fall behind only the service academies in number of alums who have become members of the astronaut corps.

I am suprised someone has not mentioned the MBA program in the college of business: Money Laundering 101. From what I have heard no one else in the country can match its prestige.
But in all seriousness the Arch. program is one of the tops. My uncle is a Senior VP for the largest Arch firm in the world and he says they pretty much have an appartment in the conference center because they are in AU so much.

Law. No question. The medical school is very highly ranked as well, but was moved to UAB a while back to be closer to the big hospitals.
