Guys, I'm telling you...You are wrong.

If you solicit cash in the recruiting process, you are no longer an amateur. You are ineligible.

Period. Wherever you're getting your facts from, they are wrong. Obviously, it will be a lot worse for Auburn if payment was indeed made, but nonetheless "solicitation of cash" in not legal under NCAA rules as you claim. You could not be further from the truth, when the opposite of what you are saying is the truth.
while this may be the case, there is currently no proof given that the solicitation was even made. i'm not saying its not out there, just that nothing has been provided to this point.

kenny rogers word? not good enough.

i dont think it matters where he solicited the money, as long as there's proof that it was done. You can't just ask people for money to play college football.

ESPN said it is NOT against NCAA rules to ask for anything, money included.

Now receiving is a different story, but asking for money doesnt break any NCAA rules.

NCAA spokesperson Stacey Osburn told The Birmingham News that:

quote:

The solicitation of cash or benefits by a prospective student-athlete or another individual on his or her behalf is not allowed under NCAA rules.

Auburn, you're fricked. Thank you. Can you free up those rooms in Atlanta for the rest of us?

I guess it really doesn't matter now, but Rogers story completely contradicts the interview he gave last friday. What a cock sack.

Newtons dad never asked for the money, he allegedly had someone else do this.

Hey dumbass - you obviously didn't listen to the interview. Cam's dad asked for the money.

I think the decision whether or not to suspend him will be made based on how confident the NCAA is that they will eventually be able to prove a violation.

Yes...in fact, legally speaking, even if they tell auburn to sit him for now and then Cam is cleared of everything and Cam/Auburn sue...all the NCAA would have to prive is that they have a reasonable belief given all the information known at the time that sitting Cam would be in the best interest of the NCAA until everything was sorted out...in other words, very little chance Cam/Auburn would win...

Once again, the NCAA is the private entity...the courts would have to pierce the corporate veil and show that the NCAA's decision to bench Cam was arbitrary and capricious...that is not happening.

I know there are a lot of big words in that explanation so I don;t expect Auburn fans to comprehend.

For the logical equation, A + B = C to work you have to have A and C be correct, B can be unknown and we can make logical deductions and it still makes logical sense (i.e. A= Grandma needed milk and eggs C= Grandma arrived at home with milk and eggs, B is unknown but it is safe to assume Grandma went to the grocery store)

A= Cecil/Cam Newton solicit money from MSU, stating that it would take money to get Cam "this time" (known)

C= Cam ends up at Auburn (known)

Can anyone guess what B is? That's right. B = Auburn pays Cam to come to Auburn. Would I take it to court based on this? No. Would I argue it in front of the NCAA. Probably

Its all about solid evidence at this point, someone needs to dig something up - and fast.

you better believe the BCS, NCAA, SEC, and everyone else want something tangible sooner than later - no one wants to have to give back all the hardware later once proof is found

Doesn't matter. Did the interview today with his lawyer - probably making sure that whatever he's asked to say under oath matches.

So you would think they would have already told Newton to sit, wouldn't you?

On top of that their reports did not contain the substance of the phone conversations if i read everything right.

Well according to Rogers they met in person, so there probably was enough information from that to not even worry about phone conversations. You are incorrectly assuming Schad's info is the only info.

Soliciting itself is asking for money which, according to an NCAA spokesperson as quoted in the Birmingham News, is against NCAA rules. No money has to change hands. Not only is it against NCAA rules but it is also a Federal crime.
