That nomination has my official endorsement.

Your screen name suggests otherwise.

I thought you were stating that you support the bear logo? Was I wrong?
Posted on 10/21/10 at 8:25 pm to crimsonsaint
yes.
ETA: I do support it. Just not sure why my name says otherwise.

pedoReb has a better ring to it. It avoids the alliteration.

+1. I find it laughable that a University with a 100+ year old mascot would change it to appease some liberal, affirmative action, NAACP ppl. I'm thinking the next step will be to change the name to the University of Equal Opportunity in Mississippi. Or UEOM.

Col. Reb was only on the sideline for 25 or so years.
He left the sideline in 2003.
We've been mascotless for 7 years.

I can't help but wonder where you are getting such terrible misinformation.
Col. Rebel the foam-headed mascot has only been around since the 70's. Before that....it was a guy literally dressed as a confederate soldier.
So my question now is why aren't the Col. Reb supporters crying about not having a Confederate soldier running around the sidelines? After all....It was a longer tradition than the foam-headed mascot.
...Pokes a pretty damned large hole in the whole "don't take our tradition's" argument.

I'm standing by it to an extent. I like col reb and southern heretige, but I'm not gonna protest them being gone. To be honest, I don't like the bear but if that's what we have chose ill try to accept it. What I don't agree on is how pank somewhat and namely inelisha are undermining people who have opinions on col reb and the old south as ignorant hicks. It's fine if you support a certain movement, and I like you both as posters, but you shouldn't call people in our fan base ignorant because they like col reb or other aspects of southern culture. Whether you like it or not, those people are a big part of the ole miss ulumni and should be respected

I just want to note I was on this bear thing years ahead of the curve.

FWIW....I've never done this. I only refer to the lunatic fringe Col. Reb fans....the Glen Beck of Col. Reb supporters if you will. I'm just tired of all the misinformation spouted out by them in an attempt to advance their cause.
At one time...I loved Col. Rebel and still did a few years after he was removed as well. But I moved on and realized why it was better for Ole Miss to remove him.

I'm not talking about a student dressed up in a costume on the sideline. I'm talking about the Ole Miss Rebels. Did it used to be something different?

You don't think that it's much better to distance ourselves from something easily misinturpreted as a racist symbol?
I personally got extremely tired and frustrated having to explain how Col. Rebel WASN'T a racist symbol. But eventually I realized that what defines something as a racist symbol is when a fairly large group of people perceive it as one.(not referring to an ethnicity either)
