He turns 60 in 2011. He has two NCs (in different schools in the SEC ). He has coached a Heisman trophy winner. How long before his intensity and fire begins to go down?

What is a good age for a coach to retire.

That's the problem. They never stop loving the game, and get forced out.

I remember him in an interview at LSU back in the day saying he was not going to be like Paterno or Bowden. With the money now, he will be at his lake in Georgia once his contract expires with Bama assuming he doesn't take one more shot at the NFL (would have to be the right job with personnel already in place).

I also remember him saying that. saban is not the type to hang around forever-kinda proved that already. The guy is an ego maniac & all things go in cycles. He's got his hardware, from 2 schools, he's got his money, oh & lets not forget that little statue. He's going to be around another 5 years or so, he probably figures if he's going to win another NC, it will take place within that time frame, after that, w/out another NC, the bummers will start whining & life won't be as rosey, so he'll take his money & run. I doubt he gives the NFL another try. He'll probably end up as an analyst or something, although with his personality, I don't know if he'll make it as a tv guy. Either way, I don't see him hanging around past his prime, too much ego to ride the slide.

G E A U X T I G E R S!!!

You calling him "Tricky Nicky" shows that you do not worship Nick and therefore you must be banned from this website. The only thing you can do on this site is bash Les and hope like Hell Nick comes back!

When $aban finally calls it quits, LSU must move swiftly, to get a young coach with a lot of promise to replace whoever is sucking it up for us then.

I think Bama probably backs the truck up to extend his stay before doing a Smart (coach in waiting) deal.

Looking back I wish LSU would've done a coach in waiting for when Saban left for NFL.

I wonder if Texas A&M boards are filled with posts about Bear Bryant.

At 60, that'll be the right age to be our AD and HC for a few years, while he grooms the HC in waiting.

Bobby Bowden was winning and competing for national titles up to his early '70s. With the way modern medicine is today, I can see Saban sticking around and coaching at a high level for a good 10-15 years. And why do so many SEC fans want Saban to go away so badly but never say anything about Urban Meyer leaving for the NFL?

At least you have come to the conclusion that it's the only chance you have...

If Bama gets 5 more years and 1 more NC from Saban I will be happy with that.
