I just heard on the Indy Bowl broadcast that the ACC & MWC will send members to the game next season. If the bowl reps chose to drop the SEC & Big 12 in favor of those 2 conferences, then that crappy bowl will finally croak. At least, the SEC-Big 12 tie-ins gave them teams whose fans could easily drive to the bowl in less than 8 hrs, at least in most seasons. Good luck trying to convince some fans on the East Coast or in the Rocky Mtn states to fly to Shreveport for a few days!

Well every year they had to worry about the Big XII and SEC filling their spots. Both conferences routinely place two teams in the BCS, which knocks them down a level. At least with the ACC and Mountain West, they won't have to worry about that. They stand to get an Air Force, BYU, or Utah unless one of them get into the BCS. Air Force will do well in Shreveport any time because of Barksdale AFB. The ACC teams that end up in the Indy Bowl will just be glad they are in a bowl so it won't really matter.

they didn't drop anyone. they were dropped. i personally know some members of the independence bowl committee. they are great folks and have done a TREMENDOUS job with their bowl. i am sorry to see any set back they have. for you to call that a crappy bowl pisses me off and shows me how little you know about life. if you ever get a job and try to succeed, i can laugh at you if you do not meet expectations. in fact, i hope you fail, a-hole.

MWC fans can vacation in SD, LV, LA, SF, Ha, Sea, Tahoe, and all the western ski resorts, with their vacation time and dough..Shrevetown doesn't excite a left coaster.

ACC fans don't even attend regular season games in Miami, UNC played in Charlotte the other day in a half-empty stadium with empty seats at midfield, BC is a long ways from Shreveopolis,etc..This isn't gonna go well.

Then again the positive, it's not like SEC schools have ever enjoyed their season ending up as "Weed Eater Bowl" quality, and ATM, TT, etc..haven't exactly overwhelmed either in their desire to make the trip. Thus a change offers a fresh opportunity.

Still, it's stupid and sad, that the SEC and Big-12 abandon a nice partial conference border area like Shreveport, when it provides some decent coverage and exposure for their programs at their conference's borderline proximity, and of late on an isolated college tv game date.

And for a few days, Shreveport offers a nice game trip of gaming, food, bars, restaurants,etc..

First things first - I know exactly where the Mountain West line of thinking is coming from.

MWC 2 and 3 are:

1. Tired of playing in a bowl game before Christmas. Avoiding the REALLY early-bowl stigma alone makes the Indy Bowl a favorable move. No more Poinsettia Bowl on Dec. 23 OR... what's the Worst Case Scenario if you're Mormon.... drumroll please....

2. The Las Vegas Bowl on Dec. 22nd. For the past couple of years, BYU has been stuck with a Las Vegas Bowl invite. Yes - they had a ranked opponent, but could you imagine a less desirable place than Vegas for a whole slew of Mormons?

Shreveport still wears its Bible Belt proudly enough for those that are into that sort of thing... and for everyone else - Bossier awaits.

Which brings us to the ACC...

This year the ACC and MWC have developed a strange symbiotic relationship.

*Only conference with 2 teams ballsy enough to schedule TCU as an OOC opponent(Frogs traveled to both Clemson and Virginia)
*BYU played the front end of its home/home with Florida State.

All this AND they want a bowl tie-in with the Mountain West... That's sure is nice of them to show such interest, right?

WRONG. The ACC has a motive - to save their collective BCS arse.

It's pretty clear that of all the Non-AQ Conferences - the MWC is on the rise. So much so that the MWC greatly threatens to supplant the ACC's AQ status when renegotiation time comes around in 2014. The ACC is gambling with its future - deciding that some head-to-head bowl victories are necessary to maintaining their AQ status.

It will be interesting to see if the gamble pays off for them.

ETA:

TCU, BYU, Utah all travel VERY well..

People posting at the beginning of this thread have no clue what they are talking about...No its not an amazing bowl but its hardly a terrible bowl. The stadium was redone in the past decade and looks relatively nice and is reasonably large...Shreveport really rallies around the bowl and does a good job of promoting it locally...I dont get why people from Louisiana would go out of their way to down the bowl...its good publicity and its money from other states coming here...

SEC gets the Gator Bowl (Jax) starting next season. Unfortuantely it is another Big 11 matchup.

That bowl is more like punishment than a reward for players and fans.

Good. Let them have fun in Shreveport..
