re: Remember when LSU had 39 scholarship players

It was laughably sad how many fans of Kansas St. were bragging on Twitter about having supposedly beaten the team that won the nat'l title 2 years prior to that meaningless bowl. No matter how many times that I pointed out that there were a dozen or so at most players from the '19 squad playing vs. KSU, few to none of whom were starters in '19.

2 of Vandy's TDs were defensive scores. No one should blame those on the 2019 defense

I have some ideas:
1. Saban says “crayfish”.
2. Saban thinks tilapia is real Cajun food.
3. Saban puts heighteners in his shoes.
4. Saban orders vegetarian gumbo.
5. Alabama= the anus of America.

Buddy D did a great job. I wish he could've lived through the '09 season. At the least, he deserved 2 more yrs to see the 1st trip to the NFC title game.
Question for listeners to Buddy Diliberto's post-game shows

For any of you who used to listen to Buddy D's show on WWL AM after the Saints' games in the '90s & 2000s, I have a few questions.
1. What was the name of the guy who billed himself as the "President of the Down to Earth Club" as a pessimistic response to Bubba & the Magic Carpet Riders?
2. Have any of those frequent callers (Dr. Kavorkian, Sid from Jefferson, Bubba & others called in since Deke & Bobby took over the show? I've never heard them.

The last mtg vs USM was my last game as an LSU student. What an awful way to end my time there. At least it convinced Joe Dean to end the Hallman era/error.

Watching in my living of my house near Monterey Bay. I'm sure I startled my neighbors since I yelled loudly & there was only a few separating my house from neighbors on both sides.

The Cow Patties have a complete lack of originality. They rip off everything from superior programs (pre-game intro from Miami, "Battle Hymn of the Republic" type fight song from UGA, insults directed at LSU from Kansas State, etc.)

Miles has gotten to where Cholly Mack was in many ways. Nice guy Good winning % BUT could not win the BIG ONES.
Mack was 2-14 vs the Gumps. He lost his last 9 games vs Bama. Miles is 5-7 vs Bama & lost his last 5. Looks like history is repeating itself.

Maybe b/c there are no rock songs about badgers?
re: No Full Band Trips During The Regular Season....Thanks Joe

I understand the whole band not traveling if it's for financial reasons. If only a pep band can go to each road game, so be it. Better a portion of the GBFTL than none at each game.
I just hope it doesn't end up as it did during the Broadhead Administration. The band had to organize its own transportation to Oxford 1 yr in the 80s. They carpooled enough members but not the whole band.

re: Anyone in Green Bay already?

GB is a rather small city (< 100K people) so an influx of 10s of 1000s of extra people would be noticeable, I would think.
Anyone in Green Bay already?

If so, can you give us update on what's happening? How big in the presence of LSU fans? How are the locals reacting to this (like the extra business or hate the increased traffic)?

There snow during pre-game at the '97 Indy Bowl. It stopped by kickoff.

Counted among some of Michigan's wins are games vs high schools.

My 2 cents about his rankings. He places way too much emphasis on # of Heisman Trophy winners for a program. Also, he fails to take into account that some of these teams piled up much of their wins vs weak conf. opponents (Oklahoma & Nebraska had 6 automatic wins for decades playing in the Big 2 & Little 6 Conference. Texas did the same in the Seriously Weak Conference.)
"Relatively speaking, Nebraska has enjoyed more recent success." This about a program that hasn't even won a conference title this century? The Cornhuskers are a has-been.
"The Wolverines fall short of their fellow blue bloods in national championships with only two." Yet LSU, w/ 3 nat'l titles, is ranked below UM?

They (Tulane) are arguably the worst Div.I program in the last 40 years.
As much as I hate Toolame, I must say this is not true. The Green Weenies had very short-lived success w/ Tommy Bowden (7-4 & 11-0). They've played in bowls several times. They did beat Old Myth & MS St. occasionally when playing them every season until the late 80s.
If they were nearly as smart as they claim, they never would have left the SEC. They would've still struggled to win as much as they did as an independent. However, they could've financially set as another perennial loser, Vandy, is. They certainly would've have at least 30K at homes games for SEC games, even if that meant the opponent had the majority in the stands. Their regular scheduling of teams from the East Coast (Navy, Rutgers, etc.) as an independent led to plenty of empty seats in the Dome for decades.
Pre-game on the field for LSU's band
Posted by Bayou_Bengal@Irving on 8/16/16 at 7:27 pm
Does anyone know if the Golden Band from Tigerland will play its pre-game routine on the not-yet-frozen tundra at Lambeau Field? I know it's common for opposing teams' bands to play during the pre-game at Big 10 home games. Just wondering if this will extend to a supposed neutral site.
re: Arnsparger--Forgotten era
Posted by Bayou_Bengal@Irving on 8/15/16 at 9:07 pm
Arnsparger's main problem was recruiting. He had a lax attitude. He figured the quality players in LA would automatically gravitate to LSU. So some high profile recruits went elsewhere after not being courted by Arnie's staff (Neil Smith to Nebraska is an example.)
Also, the performances in the bowls were embarrassing.

re: WoW. Curley Hallman was really that Bad
Posted by Bayou_Bengal@Irving on 8/15/16 at 9:01 pm
I was there in the same awful period in LSU football '90-'94. Don't forget the loss to Colorado St. in '92.
How horrible was Curley? His teams were never above .500 at any point during any of his 4 seasons. Also, his 2nd season was the worst finish ever by LSU, 2-9!
