For Bama fans only: how many of you believe all the NC Bama claims are legit?

Curious.

This subject has always fascinated me.

Paul W. Bryant died in January 1983, believing that Bama had won only 6 National Championships, and that he was the Head Coach for every damn one of them.

The good folks at UA took the opportunity after his death to piss all over that record of individual excellence by 'retroactively' claiming titles that didn't exist at the time the games were actually played.

Fact: there was no such thing as a "National Champion" in major college football before the Associated Press began its poll of sportswriters in 1936.

Jeezus, you have a great history already, and no one comes close in the SEC in the number of LEGITIMATE championships - both NCs and CCs.

Why do you assclowns feel compelled to pump yourselves up even more? Feelings of inadequacy, much?

We got royally screwed out of a few national titles in football, but so did alot of other teams back in the day. The correct answer to the question is no doubt 7 National titles. 3 IN THE 60'S, 3 IN THE 70'S AND 1992. That would be 6 AP national titles and 1 UPI national title. This is not mythical, these are since the ap up inception in 1953 if i am not mistaken. Roll tide!!!!

Of the 12 we acknowledge, 1941 is the only one I consider bogus. I don't complain though, because of 1966.

I'm just happy that we've had enough history to debate in a 7 page thread.

No matter how many MNC trophies you take away, we'll still have more than anyone else in the SEC... more SEC titles, more bowl wins, more 10+ win seasons, and a winning record vs all other SEC teams.

Life is good

My sycophant family members and I have extremely heated discussions about this during every holiday season. They always obfuscate the point at issue by claiming that other teams claim national titles that are questionable. THAT POINT IS ENTIRELY IRRELEVANT TO THE DISCUSSION.

The claimed national titles versus the unclaimed national title argument doesn't work, because it doesn't even out in the end.

To be honest, no one would really give a rats arse about how many national titles Bama won if Bama fans would not flaunt their "national titles" in the face of their opponents.

The modern era of football does not owe any debt of gratitude to Bama. Football in the south is not dependent on Bama's success. The SEC does not owe any debt of gratitude to Bama. Bama did not "steal" Nick Saban from LSU. Bama will never run through college football like they did in the 1960s.

Before you say I'm obfuscating the issue, please consider that I'm attempting to help Bama fans. When Bama sucked, which has been for the majority of this century, I cheered for Bama in every game except the LSU/Bama game. I like Bama. However, the "Got Twelve", "Got Saban", and any other proclamations of how great your program truly is relative to other programs in the nation are desperate, and they result in an extreme and unhealthy hate for your university.

Right now, Bama is the child prodigy who turned to drugs when everyone caught up to him, and the only rebuttal he has is that at one time, he was so much better than you. I really hate that kid.
