keep his mouth shut. he doesn't understand or care (or both) about the rules of the conference. there is a reason you don't critisize the officials in public. there is a proper forum established for that. he really comes off, in public, as a whining, immature, kid that doesn't think the rules apply to him. it's a shame, because i think he's put together a good staff and they seem likely to bring ut back. the sec needs to step in and slap him hard the next time he does this (and he will). suspension w/o pay is what i say.

Just ban him from speaking to the media. That would hurt him a lot more than a fine. He would go crazy not being able to talk shite about another team, school, or coach for a reporter.

He's a good coach and a good recruiter. If anything, UT fans better get used to the rest of the SEC whining about Kiffen. Cause he ain't going anywhere and will only get better and better. I'd hate to think AU had to play them again.

you want a prime example of why coaches and other top university employees shouldn't critisize the officials read maximus' post a little while ago referring to the "SEC referee scandal". next thing you know, some fool is gonna hurt one of these ref's.

I think this ole "grandad" is the one that needs to keep his mouth shut

So you are up in arms about CLK calling Urban Meyer a cheater and for calling out the refs?
Great defender of the SEC ethics you are

hey mr quickdraw mcvol, i am not a defender of sec ethics, i just believe in college football. it is not the pros. in addition, publically blasting the officials will help to drag down college football. the crazy fan element will then think its ok to step in (not verbally) and someones gonna get hurt. this is not a question of ethics. however, if it was, it is plain to see you don't give a shite about ethics. "calling out the refs" as you call it is a lot more serious than calling urban meyer a cheater. and yes, i believe the sec commissioner will suspend kiffen w/o pay if he "calls out the refs" again. you just aren't smart enough to see it.

I think they can fine the Atheletic department which I'm sure they'll be glad to pay the fine. UT fans felt for a long time Fulmer was too quiet in public and should have been more public with some things so I'm sure they like Kiffin doing this.

I see Kiffen's point. There were some questionable calls at the end of the game. But if don't think Slive can suspend him, you are wrong. Tennessee can continue to pay him but he can be suspended.

So, I suppose it's a publicity stunt or a huge oversight that the SEC, courtesy of Mike Slive, just released a statement that, in effect, said Kiffen could face suspension for any further incidents regarding criticism of officials?

quote:

From the SEC office:
KIFFIN REPRIMANDED
BIRMINGHAM – Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive has issued a public reprimand to University of Tennessee head football coach Lane Kiffin for his public comments concerning officiating Sunday.

“Coach Kiffin has violated the Southeastern Conference Code of Ethics,” Slive said. “SEC Bylaw 10.5.4 clearly states that coaches, players and support personnel shall refrain from all public criticism of officials.”

“This is the second reprimand for Coach Kiffin in this calendar year. Coach Kiffin is on notice that for any further violations of SEC policies will subject him to additional penalties including suspension.”
