As a Gators fan, I obviously have no idea what life is like in Gainesville as an opposing fan. I've been to 9 of the possible 11 campuses (not Ark or Miss State, though Starkville is coming in two weeks). I still wore my Gator croakies visiting Athens a few years back watching a game.

Grade A experiences:
Oxford, Tuscaloosa.

Grade B:
Athens, Columbia, Nashville (half-full of Gator fans anyway), Knoxville (the Vol Navy is cool, its generally friendly banter. Maybe I was lucky).

Grade C:
Auburn (terrible in your face postgame in 2006), Kentucky (unexpectedly rude in 2007 pregame).

Grade D:
Baton Rouge. 2007 pregame most people were uncool, hostile, and uninviting. This coming from a 25 year old guy and his sister walking around with LSU people, dressed decently in our blue and orange. I'm going again this weekend hoping for a better time (and result).

What have been others' experiences on the road?

Dude, tailgate with some Gator fans. You aren't going to get any sympathy here. Or try staying in Nola and take a charter bus in with the rest of the Gator Nation

You can tell from the responses you are getting what to expect. My last game at tiger stadium I saw about a 70 year old UA fan get a big gulp dumped on his head on the way in by a drunk LSU fan. Florida and LSU are both the least southern of the SEC schools in that Florida is full of yankees and Louisiana is a cultural island to itself.

IMO, you deserve any harsh treatment that you may get.

Not trying to be a smart a#$, but walk around UF's campus on LSU/Florida gameday in purple and gold and let me know how "nice" people are to you. True story, after one of the many Spurrier beat downs in the '90s, had women getting in my face doing the "Loser State" thing. I personally consider that part of the experience and don't let it bother me. If you want nice, go to Auburn. I found they were extremely nice, even after a tough loss last year.

Hope you have a better time this weekend. I have been to all the West div teams except Arky and had a good time in all cases. I liked the Miss. State fans they seem really down to earth, i guess i'm kind of biased though since my sister went there.

no kidding. It's a lame tailgating atmosphere in Gainesville anyway... but the people absolutely sucked.

Now... the stadium rocked. It was awesome inside. But the tailgating and the people were less than impressive.

I'm always hearing about people pouring 'big gulps' or throwing piss bombs, etc... at LSU games. I grew up in BR, have gone to countless games and have never witnessed anything even close to this.

College football is what we all look forward to every year, I wish people would celebrate gameday instead of spend it talkin $hit to people who've traveled because of their allegiance to their team. That should be respected.

I know its a utopian notion. But friendly banter is so much more fun than getting in someone's face or ruining peoples days. Just my opinion.

You took the words out of my mouth..... i've never seen this happen either and i've been to almost every LSU game in BTR in the last 20 years. Not to say it doesnt happen, but don't try to make it seem like that is a normal occurence.

Grade F: Gainesville

Worst fans in the SEC bar none. Rude, confrontational, and just overall mean-spirited. Not to mention the ugliest women I've seen at any SEC school. Your football team and stadium rock, but your fans and your shitty city suck big time. I recommend that all SEC fans attend a game in Gainesville once to see how not to treat visitors to their respective campuses.

Here's the problem with these threads - you will find people with great experiences and people with shitty experiences at every game in every stadium.

The only place in the SEC that I have not been to a game is USC (I have never been to Fayetteville either as we always play them in Little Rock but I have been to that War Memorial Stadium shithole 3 times) and I have had good and bad experiences everywhere.

It all depends on who you happen to be near ... in general, if you walk by a heavily student populated area you will get shite on (hopefully not literally), if you walk past an area of older fans, you will be treated much better.

Every school has good and bad fans. Period.

Yeah, honestly, I think 99% of the horror stories you hear about visiting fans and games is just bullshite or gross exaggerations. I have seen a couple fights at stadiums between opposing fans, but then, I've seen fights at stadiums between fans of the same team. You get drunk people in a confined space, some shite is going to happen. But overall I think most people are cool and do one of two things: 1) invite you to tailgate with them or 2) keep to themselves.

There is the occasional jackass, of course. But if you are cool to people and respectful, in almost all cases, you can expect people to be cool and respectful to you. It ain't rocket surgery.
