I heard Miles say that he expects Loston to be cleared by the middle of August. Is this possible? I think I remember Murphy being cleared well into practice his freshman year.

Based on Miles comments, seems he thinks Loston will be cleared soon. We'll see.........

We missed big on Sentimore...and he really wanted LSU....we just backed off and then it was too late

If I recall, Saban did a great guilt job on both he and Richardson to save their commitments..

That is how you close the deal..gotta be hard line!

How come so many players have problems getting into college but once they are there they have no problems. Aren't most high schools easier than college?

well from what I understood, it wasn't just grades with Sentimore.

I really don't think you need to take chances when you've got the talent like we have. I agree he would have been nice but you can't just be irresonsible.

they are assigned tutors in college and are basically forced to put in a lot of hours at study hall.

Yes, HS is easy. That is why you see guys with 3.8 GPAs and 16 ACTs. College can also be easy if you pick an easy field of study. Moreover, college players have tons of resources at their disposal to make sure they remain eligible. I'm talking about the academic resource center, tutoring, etc.

Correct, and more than just plays, his work habits as well... As some of his coaches told me, Saban has his work cut out for him to get his butt in gear

This is getting as old as "we never really wanted him anyway" and "he's overrated".

From the beginning, it was "We're not recruiting Lacy because there's no way he'll qualify". "Grades are a big time issue" is what we kept hearing.

With Sentimore, it was "We're going to slow play him...but don't worry, he'll be a Tiger if we offer". Kid gets pissed cause he's getting shunned (supposedly due to grades), commits to Bama out of spite, we offer at the last minute, and WHAT DO YA KNOW???? He tells us to GFY! I don't give a crap how bad he WANTED to come here....that's not what matters. He's NOT here because of the way we recruited him.

Well...here we are. Day one of practice.

Sentimore = Cleared
Lacy = Cleared
Loston = NOT CLEARED

/rant

Bitch away.

We didn't have two elite talents and a JC guy recruitied ahead of Loston at the safety position either.

Well, that is the word on the street Ttowntide.

He had an offer and accept Bama before LSU had made any effort and offer..

He basically switch his committment on the spot during his LSU visit...then he recieved a call from Nick

TIFWIW.. He is a good talent, the kid wanted LSU, but the LSU staff didn't think he would qualify, so we didn't recruit him like we should have.. Thats is the truth

And if you being honest, Most LA kids want to play for LSU

Miles continues to miss on thee "will he or won't he" qualify prediction gig

Off the top of my head, players that we didn't think would qualify but did somewhere else/

3 5 Star WR in 3 years
1 4 star DL
1 4 Star RB
and few 4 star OL players too

I suppose every program has this happen

Obviously the 4-star DL is Sentimore and the 4-star RB is Lacy. I am pretty sure that two of the receivers are DeAndre Brown and Dez Bryant. Bryant wasn't actually a 5-star, but obviously he is an incredible player. Who is the third receiver?

Btw, of the four players I just mentioned, the only one that LSU missed out on for the reason you mentioned was Dez Bryant. From what I can tell, LSU offered DeAndre Brown, but the coaches at USM misled him to the point where he thought that he could go there as a partial qualifier if he didn't have the necessary scores to get in elsewhere. Of course, that isn't the case at all, but based on what he said in interviews at the time, I think that is what he genuinely believed.

It seemed like LSU had doubts about Sentimore's grades and character early on in the process, but as they missed out on bigger prospects like McFarland and as Sentimore demolished opposing linemen in the state playoffs, LSU ultimately offered him and made a strong push to get him on campus. I think Sentimore ultimately decided to go to the program that offered him initially, but LSU certainly showed interest in him late in the game.

LSU clearly showed very little interest in Eddie Lacy, and he has continued to show more warning signs than Ryan Perriloux at the same age. I know that RP is (justifiably) one of the most reviled guys in recent LSU history, but a lot of the same fans that hate RP far more than I ever will are the same guys blaming Miles for not taking Lacy.
