It was just mentioned on Rivals radio that Death Valley was the most intimidating place to play in college football today by Bill King. Many callers from other schools followed by calling in and giving their stories of visiting for the first time. So I ask you, where is the best atmosphere to attend a college football game. Tigerbait!

Crowd noise as an intimidation factor is overrated in my opinion. Crowd noise that interferes with signals and communication is real. Most of the thugs that play listen to rap music at 1200 decibels so noise doesn't really intimidate them. When they can't hear signals though, that's a problem.

Can you shed light on your personal experience on the matter?

Not saying that it is or isn't a factor, but how can you possibly say it is overrated if you have never had to play on a field with about 80000 people screaming at you to fail?

(btw...stfu Tigah fans. I know how much TS holds....but i'm not including visiting fans.)

I would agree with him. Anyone who says otherwise is nuts. I was there last year when you guys blocked our FG attempt late in the 4th quarter, and I was so heartbroken, but at the same time I was just looking around the stadium in awe of what was going on. I will never forget the experience.

I've been to every stadium in the SEC with the exception of Arky in Fayetteville. I'd rank them like this as far as "intimidation level" ...

1. LSU
2. Florida
3. Alabama
4. Auburn
5. Georgia
6. Tennessee
7. South Carolina
8. Ole Miss
-- Arky (Little Rock)
9. Kentucky
10. Mississippi State
11. Vanderbilt

The thing is being a fan and screaming and going crazy like others it's hard to notice the noise and the crowd going crazy. You almost have to step back and take it all in which is hard to do when something big like that happens. I'm sure most fans of all schools can relate to this.

Best I have been to is Tiger Stadium. I wish the Ole Miss fan base could get half as loud as it is there. Also Ole Miss usually plays well at LSU. It's an awesome environment.

I've never been to Vandy but I know that Starkvegas was by far the least intimidating place I have ever visited. And I've been there plenty

Ironically, a great atmosphere sometimes brings out the best in the visiting opponent, especially early in the game after coming out of the locker room, getting fired up, etc.

That said, the biggest benefit of a great home field advantage comes later in the game when the pressure starts to mount.

DAWG, try walking out of a locker room on a hot humid sat night in Tiger stadium with 90,000 fans screaming with a stench of bourbon in the air. Then you come out to Mike the Tiger who just pissed and roared. Don't tell me you would'nt be intimidated.

Everyone else is far behind. The 2 times I went to UF were fun as hell. They lack creativity but every person in that stadium does the Gator Chomp, and sings at the beginning of the 4th. That is the only other stadium that has given me a headache due to my ears ringing.

Yeah the noise difference between LSU and UF is minimal. A case can be made for both, but I think the atmosphere outside the stadium is what makes LSU more intimidating because UF barely has anyone tailgating or doing stuff like that outside the swamp.

Excellent example. Do you really think the noise from cowbells intimadates the opposing players or does it disrupt the communication and signals of the opposing team? It's not like the players are afraid the fans are going to come out of the stands and hit them over the helmets with the cowbell. Do you really think opposing teams fear (are "intimidated") by the possibility of getting mauled by the 90,000 drunk, screaming fans of Tiger Stadium?
