While even that was too high considering the candidates interviewed, it's at least reassuring to know that someone better than him wanted the job in 2006 and was even offered the job, but just couldn't pull the trigger fast enough to take it. ISU settled for Chizik and got what it got. Even though he was packaged and sold as a rock star, he wasn't hired as one. The rock star got away, so Iowa State took the back-up singer. It's Auburn's problem now.

Beating Alabama trumps all else at Auburn and Nick Saban will probably floss with Gene Chizik on an annual basis. It's a coaching mismatch of epic proportions. I mean, if Mike Sanford and Tom Amstutz and Doug Martin hand you your lunch with inferior talent, what's Saban going to do with superior talent? When the clock ticks down to 0:00 on future Iron Bowls, there will be nothing left to do but I.D. the Auburn bodies.

Maybe they know a little bit about football in Iowa after all.

Nick Saban's final game at LSU was a loss to Iowa and Kirk Ferentz always seems to be in the mix for an NFL job, I knew they knew football in Iowa, just surprised Iowa State knew anything

Chizik can coach defense. 1)Saban is capable of losing to teams with inferior talent 2)Using the shite hole that is ISU to judge Chizik is kind of unfair.

I was pissed when they let saban coach the game. you could tell we were fricking flat and he didn't give a rats arse. we handed a win to them that day and it still pisses me off.

It is kinda retarded considering Chizik's career and body of work, but one can expect nothing less than hopeful ignorance from gumps anyway.

not putting JR in until the 4th was pretty stupid as well.

I would have rather had will or jimbo coach us that game. They would have actually had the players ready.

Considering Saban's bowl record, that's a safe bet.

So, let make sure that I understand this. Iowa State's Plan B is AU's Plan A?

Chizik's resume is built on winning with superior players, something anybody can do. It's not hard to win at Texas or Auburn; it's hard to lose
You missed this part of the article. Even the writer for Iowa State recognizes it is a lot easier to win at Auburn than it is at Iowa State

An article written on an Iowa State website after Chizik leaves their school for Auburn is not a credible source. It sounded like a bunch of sour grapes to me.

Iowa State has sucked long before Chizk got there and they will continue to suck now that he is gone.

huh... someone with a reason for an ax to grind isn't credible...who'd a thunk it...

btw.. they sucked 10% more with Chiz.. instead of winning 30%, they only won 20%.

Dan McCarmney is the most successful coach in Iowa State's history, but he only won around 20% of his games during his first two years. What is your point?

Chiz had the worst winning percentage for Iowa St since 1942.

I remember an interview with an ESPN guy to a local Ames guy and he was talking about how the ISU fanbase became real greatful to auburn for taking him off their hands. The thing I remember was for 2 years there was so much disorganization in what he did, the sideline was a mess, it was just a mess they were happy to be rid of. To make matters worse, they force this Malzhan hire on him and Malzhan's spread offense does not translate to SEC success and he has no experience developing qb's or running backs at this level. From what I was reading on another forum during spring practice it sounds like their was a difference in philosphy from what Gus said they were going to run at the hiring presser, and what they are going to run.

What a mess.
Don't worry Auburn. You'll most likely end up with Petrino in a few years.

wildrebeltime = Nutt Lover of the utmost order.

The Malzhan hire was forced upon him? were do you get this form? Gus went 8-0 with a waterdown version of his offense running his wildcat which your beloved Nutter made his own by calling it the wildhog now the wildrebel. He was OC of the year twice. His offense makes Hootie and friends look like peewee football and this WAS said by ESPN announcers. You need to get off this site and back to work on Nutt's Ole Miss staff.
