Plaintiff lawyers in House v. NCAA have filed a motion to declare that MMR partners like Learfield and Playfly are not "associated entities" and their deals would be exempt from the College Sports Clearinghouse. They also want apparel companies exempted.

Money makes the world go round …

Ross Dellenger of Yahoo explains it: This move could open the door for schools - already using MMR partners to redirect millions to rosters - to avoid submitting many of those deals through the NIL Go clearinghouse.

Yep.

People don’t want to hear this and I’m going to get downvoted all to s**t, like I care, but the only fix for this is collective and contractual.

"...shittier and shitter..."

This is the first offseason in my lifetime that I havent followed recruiting and / or portal. I barely read any spring practice reports.

People will say its because my team currently sucks (it does). But I say that game has simply become uninteresting for me. The same thing happened during my teenage years with the NFL. I just slowly over time stopped caring.

Sigh.

I don’t think they’ve figured out it’ll be hard to fund NIL when the stands are half full and nobodys watching on tv.

How, in Alabama's case for example, can a school's multimedia partner (Learfield) or apparel company (Nike) NOT be considered an associated partner?

Learfield & Nike are paying NIL to Alabama athletes, they are associated with Alabama Athletics, they are under contract with Alabama Athletics, and therefore a partner.

Agreed.

In just 2 months, the CSC claims they've denied 711 deals worth $29.3mm. Schools, agents and lawyers are feeling the impact having to pass the clearing house to get their athletes paid and meet the promises they made when they recruited the athletes. They're grasping at straws and using every avenue available to circumvent the CSC now.

It is all about money. In a way this reminds me of when a venture capital group acquires a company. They squeeze it for every penny they can, with no thoughts of long term viability, and as long as they have turned a profit on the deal they don’t care what happens to the brand, business, or the people. If they go belly up, they don’t really care, they are just one line in their portfolio. Like a hoard of locusts they will just move on to the next victim.

These lawyers and agents remind me of that - same mentality. They want to get their money, they don’t care one bit about college sports.

The old saying about killing the goose who lays the golden egg seems appropriate.

If MLB and the NFL had zero salary caps (for MLB a “competitive balance tax” which functions as a soft cap) you would see teams like the Yankees and Dodgers dominating the MLB. And you would likely have far less teams. The leagues might not even resemble what they are.

This is the path college sports is on.

You think the players don’t want to get their money too?
