I saw a little bit of your game yesterday vs #1 Texas and that place gets rocking! I thought y'all were down on the coach, but he has a heck of a following of Bama fans who obviously love softball. You guys looked really good too.

I am guessing that calls for his job were premature since he has you rolling again?

His problem hasn’t been making it to OKC consistent. It’s winning once he gets there.

This years team also has power as opposed to playing small ball.

He finally got a few hitters and stopped all the small ball crap.

His lone championship took one of the greatest pitching performances by an Alabama softball player ever just to have a chance to win.

Dude is like the 1990s Braves when it comes to the post season. Or just the Braves in general.

I knew you'd be good for getting some softball talk going.

Bama looks better than they have in a while. Looks like they're about to take the series vs #1 Texas. Good...soften 'em up for OU next weekend.

Yep looks like Bama is legit this year. Good for them. I always liked the rivalry UF has with Bama in softball.

As others have stated, Murphy was criticized for playing small ball. He was criticized for not evolving. Whether intentional or not, this season it appears he has evolved. Patrick Murphy is a superb softball coach. He has a .773 overall winning percentage, a .690 NCAA tournament winning percentage, has won 6 regular season SEC championships and 5 tournament championship, is 5 time SEC coach of the year, and is in the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. He has taken Alabama to the Women’s College World Series 15 times. The criticism is that he has only won 1 national championship.

I am not saying that he is like Nick Saban. But Saban was always a run the ball and play defense coach. Until he started losing some games to wide open offenses that not even his defense could stop. He evolved and within a few years Alabama had a wide open offense that was one of the highest scoring in the SEC.

We will see if this year is an anomaly or if Alabama softball is intentionally putting a bigger emphasis on power hitting. If so, while it feels like Murphy has been at Alabama forever, he is only 60 years old. Maybe it is 100% coincidental, but that is about the same age Saban was when he had his change in philosophy.

Over 11K fans in attendance this weekend. I think Rhoads is one of the best softball venues in the country.

Rhoads is absolutely an elite venue...a huge stadium with great fans. It's on my short list of SEC travel destinations I need to visit.

The first D1 softball (or any softball really) that caught my attention was the 2012 national championship series when Bama beat OU. I had no idea it could be such an entertaining sport.

I watched only the late postseason for quite a few years after that because it was about all that was on TV. Then in 2021, I decided to start paying attention to the entire season. It was still a lot of listening on the radio while at work, even that recently.

But the last three years, nearly all the games started being televised, even if it was just a single camera behind home plate in the early season. This year, every single game has had multiple cameras, and it's fantastic.

It is much easier to watch when the players are not ugly/overweight.

This... and the lesbian narrative are so behind the times these days it is laughable.

Most softball players these days are from upper middle class families... are in decent shape...wear makeup when they play... and they all seem to be good cute Christian girls who love Jesus these days.

You get the occasional Bailey Hemphill looking girl out there... But they are usually the exception rather than the rule.

I might be the crazy one here, but I watch softball because the game itself is enjoyable. Those big ol' bruisers that knock it out of the park are some of the most exciting players on the field.

I occasionally watch women play volleyball for the view, but I care very little about the outcome of any given match. Are they called matches? See? I don't care.

I've managed to go my entire life enjoying football without ever being attracted to a single player on the field. An attractive softball player (or even a bit of a butterface with a nice arse) is a bonus, I suppose, but I'm not watching for that reason.
