I understand coaches want to retire and the timing can be unorthodox; honestly , it irritates me to the core to see the way Pearl left Auburn in a bind, then you see him Court-side watching many games, getting involved w players/refs…
Would you have the same sentiment if it was your bread/butter coach doing the same
Golden, Coach K, Pitino, Oats, etc

Yea if Oats did what Pearl did then got a network job and attended every bama game id be ticked, because it gives off the optics that he still has the time and passion to be around the game and coach.
I’d say Saban did the same but he didn’t quit a month before season and he didn’t force Kristen to be the coach so it’s slightly different

If you don't understand how huge the difference is in attending every game, and being the coach. No amount of explaining can make you understand.
Seriously, how do you even compare the two? What 'logic' are you using?

If he still wants to get involved with the game, he could have stayed on and “coached”, and let Pearljr. Run the planning etc behind scenes and Bruce could have stayed for the player optics. Pearljr could have ran the practices and all Bruce would have do is the postgames

Being an analyst for network bball is a full time job, maybe not 12-14 hour days but it’s definitely an 8 hr a day job of nothing but film study and prep for when you go on air.
Factor in going to all of your sons games and he’s probably dropped 84 hour weeks for 70 hour weeks so it’s not far off to say he still had room to coach
It is bad optics

How retarded do you all have to be to think attending games as a fan/working for a network is in any way comparable to the workload you have as a head coach

He could have let Steven be the Associate HC and run the day to day with everything to see if he has it to be the HC. All Bruce would have to do is press conferences.
If Pearljr. Sucked it up, as he did, then Bruce could have taken the brunt of the blame. Think of it as teaching your kids to ride a bike with training wheels.
That’s what I would have done if I was in the shoes if I’m still want to work and be around the team during games.
Ie: the Weekly’s which you should be familiar with

Bruce literally is your basketball program, it’s been clear for years that Steven was getting the job.
VOLS boards have been aware of it for years

We would never have hired Little Ricky to be HC here, that's why he's coaching up the road in Cincinnati at Xavier.
One of the big reasons UK did not go after Bruce Pearl to take him from Auburn when we ended things with Calipari was specifically because it was widely known he was trying to get Steven to be HC in waiting. I think Mitch being as risk averse as he is and Bruce's Knoxville cookout fiasco also being a factor didn't help his chances of getting an interview.
