Chris Cole and Darren Ikinnagbon were arrested in separate incidents last night on misdemeanor driving charges for speeding, following too close, & reckless driving.

Unpopular opinion/ question. At what point do we get to stop acting like all these driving issues are related to a “culture problem” or “ongoing problem”? Because this just sounds like a pretty standard driving arrest. I’m way over crucifying these kids for every mistake.

Read elsewhere that they were both going over 100 mph. Don’t know if true.
If that is true, consequences should be draconian in nature.

It's an "ongoing problem", with young males. Especially the ones who own fast cars. They've been driving recklessly since fast cars became available. It's not a "UGA" problem though. They broke the law, they're being punished for it by the legal system with no favoritism. That's how it should work everywhere.

Given the reported amounts of the bonds paid at their release, sounds like this is a big joke. Let them run the bleachers and get back to work.

Agreed. My phrasing was probably off. It’s been stated before. The young community has a fascination with fast cars. That’s been the case since like the 1950s but they didn’t shut down intersections to do donuts and race on crowded roads then. But it irks me when we have a driving arrest and immediately it’s “Oh Georgia still can’t fix their driving issue”. Do we just never get to have anyone arrested for driving related charges again? NIL. Big money. Young kids. Fast cars. Undeveloped brains. The math doesn’t change.

Is it confirmation bias after the homicide stuff? There’s no way entering Athens makes kids drive faster than other places. Just like when we had all the weed issues and found out it’s bc APD and richt were extremely harsh and transparent about every single issue while other schools were covering it up.

Depends on where. If its the loop, 100 is fine.

That's a side effect of being successful. Rivals will use anything to gain the upper hand. It works this way in politics, business, football, life.

Definitely not making excuses, but I heard an interview with Kirby when he said he was amazed at how many players these days don't get their drivers license until they get to college.
They basically have the mentality of a 16 year old red-blooded male who just got their license.
I always wondered if Kirby takes these players' keys after they get arrested and says no more driving for you for a while.

People who tailgate and weave in and out of traffic are one of my pet peeves. It's incredibly dangerous and incredibly dooshy.

I absolutely do understand. However, there are several outlets reporting details. One of the more prominent beat writers (don’t remember name but not Rusty) said he talked to sources in other counties’ PD in GA who said they do not make arrest in this situation. It sounds like a joke based on details reported.

It is an unpopular opinion, but I'm with ya. Our enemies like to use this stuff to stone the program, but the truth is, we will all have forgotten about this in a few days or maybe even before sun set tonight and UGA will go on to win another SEC championship...probably, and no one will care.
Not that I don't think its a shame for some kid to get arrested, but here's the truth....I have bills, a mother-in-law dying with Parkinson's disease, high blood pressure I'm trying to keep in check and there's Christians getting slaughtered in NIgeria on a daily basis. Is speeding tickets REALLY what's keeping me up at night? I think not. I will watch UGA football come fall and I hate to sound uncaring, but these arrests will be faaaaaaar in the back of mind.

I honestly think this happens at all schools we just have a large amount of low life, scumbag "journalists" who leech their existence off of UGA. They are speeding tickets.
To the kids, drive slower, don t be a narcissistic prick who puts other people's family's lives in danger on the road for your good time.

GA law does not have a specific amount over the limit that automatically constitutes reckless driving, but I can’t imagine an agency in GA that isn’t going to make a reckless driving charge for triple digit speeds on a non-interstate route.

Beat writers are all about being first and all about page views. Football players getting arrested is beat writer gold, especially if you have the story first.
If you really think that the beat writers around other programs look the other way when a player is arrested and players at other school are getting arrested all the time but we never hear about it because their beat writers never report it, we will just have to agree to disagree.

That lack of discretion is probably the issue. Cops have a lot of discretion with traffic tickets. I got a speeding ticket in Madison a few months ago and the city cop there brought it down to 14 MPH or 19 MPH or whatever it was over the speed limit so it wouldn't be reported to my insurance company.
But if a player is tailgating and weaving and acting like a NASCAR driver, I have no empathy for them going to jail. Their arse deserved it.

I would gather their is either a gap in law enforcement prioroties or a gap in how speeding tickets are reported to the public.... Again, our guys aren't any different than Miami or Memphis players, those cities just don't give a shite.

Driving 100 mph is not fine unless it's on a racetrack and a professional driver. No excuses for that and the head coach and athletic director should explain that to every recruit on day 1. I would have them running the stands at 4 am every day for a week and tell them it'll be a for a month if they get caught again.
