BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (January 29, 2026) – Texas, the defending National Champion, is the preseason favorite for the 2026 SEC softball season, following a vote by the league’s 15 head coaches in the annual preseason poll.
The Longhorns claimed first place in the preseason poll with nine first-place votes and 189 points. Oklahoma, which won the SEC regular-season title last season, secured second place in the poll with 186 points and six first-place votes. Points were compiled on a descending basis, and coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.
The Preseason All-SEC Team was also selected by a vote of the head coaches. Twenty-one players from 11 schools were named to the team, including 19 athletes who were recently placed on the Top 50 Watch List for the 2026 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year.
SEC teams are set to begin the 2026 softball season on Thursday, February 5, and conference play is slated to start on Friday, March 6. The 2026 SEC Softball Tournament is scheduled for May 5-9 at John Cropp Stadium in Lexington, Ky.

Maybe they could win the sec ever before being picked preseason anything . Pretty sure OU returns everyone and we won the sec just like we will this year again . As a matter of fact OU had beaten Texas 3-4 times last year as well .

quote:Excited to see those players as well, the problem is that last years team had only one senior, and was REALLY young, it could be a while before these ladies break in, and if not, transfers on the way. It's been amazing the talent that left OU and started in the SEC over the last few years. We already lost last years top incoming pitcher to transfer (even though she had some personal issues last year).
