With an 8th and 9th seed playing for last years national championship and a 10th seed making it this year.

Different destinations, different play throughout the year to adjust for it. Literally impossible to say.

A few examples come to mind of who could’ve won it all but were not involved
2004 - Auburn
2007 - UGA, that team was rolling
2009 - Florida, they lost their best pass rusher for the SEC title game, Carlos Dunlap, due to suspension for a DUI the weekend before the game
2012 - A&M was the hottest team in CFB at the end of the year
2017 - Auburn smashed UGA and alabama when healthy
2022 - alabama, they had two razor close road losses but were as good as anyone in the country

No. Ohio St was only ranked 8 due to dumb playoff seeding rules. Notre Dame by rule could only be ranked as high as 5th due to no conference so the committee obviously thought highly of them. More than likely the #1 seed is winning it this year. Whatever team you think was robbed of 4-5 titles because of the old systems in place had their opportunities.

Depends on what you value in a champion. Playing the best at the end of the year, best resume all year, not losing to bad teams throughout the year, best wins, etc.

Yes.
The entire “championship” has been a sham for a century.
Claim them while you can.
Actual championships began last year. There are no more “blue bloods” - just teams holding on to history while other teams play for a title that was won on the field and not in the back alley of college football TV studios.

I can think of 7 championships that were claimed within the past year that are an absolute shambolic embarrassment.
