Makes a lot of sense and IMO Alabama would do well to adopt.

It’s always been like that. It’s like my business of construction.

Do you take the hot shot college grad who wants to make 100k a year, that has no experience at all, but did go to college.

Or take a guy that has years of experience, doesn’t have a college degree?

Thats why the whole 2/3 star VS 4/5 star comparison doesn’t mean anything.
It’s just a talking point for those idiots.

I imagine you in particular take whichever one happens to be white.

It doesn't anymore. Teams like Indiana and just a few years ago Michigan put together a roster full of fifth and sixth year players who going by recruiting stars weren't as talented, but ended up being the best or one of the best teams in the country.

It’s simple. Do you deal with things as you want them to be or as they used to be, or do you deal with them as they are?

I think the key to recruiting vs bringing in transfer portal guys is discerning which players coming out of HS have the best chance at getting on the field the fastest, compared to needing two years to develop. Then on the portal side, determining if a player after being in college the time he has, has developed enough to be better than the guys you currently have. This is where the balance comes in from the GM and the HC. Indiana did a helluva job discerning this.

We told them before the game when they were saying we would blow by Indiana and then after the game when the same people were wondering why they were so disciplined and physical because they "had no talent!!".

They are very very mature team. Just like Michigan and without the access to bringing in all those older mercenary players (they love to hate) their great Curt Cignetti isn't beating KDB.

We have to adjust like others and rely on feeling positions of need with veteran leadership

Nope. Only the most qualified for the position, always, regardless of anything else. But obviously you feel you haven’t gotten “the” job based upon color, or education?

I think in the case of Bama, you had such a stockpile of talent...that had no option but to stay and compete...that they pushed each other.

Now the depth isnt that way. Bama has blue chip players but the depth to constantly push each other. The key may just be to get the players that have already been pushed...but are looking for a shot at a national championship rather than just playing time or a paycheck

Coaches have to build good teams with 55 good players now. The rest are practice fodder,

Yeah they clearly have talent. Ive talked about this before but I worked with a D2 football team once, and we 100% had a few players that could have played significant roles or just been straight up starters at Bama, even in the prime Saban years.

Some guys are just gonna develop later. If you are one of those guys, you arent gonna be a 4-5 star recruit
