Desegregation of college football + Was it really that consequential

or have the effects of it been blown out of proportion?
For a moment, let's attempt to have a rational discussion about this without screeching and howling by bigots about the supposed racial and athletic superiority of African American boys.
This Indiana team is 85% white men and they have systematically dismantled team after team after team, many in dramatic fashion as they did with Alabama.
It makes one wonder if the teams in the 20's - early 1960's were really weak, ineffectual, helpless shells of what teams are today as we have been told.
Perhaps those old teams were actually totally bad-arse road graders who were tougher, more masculine, stronger, and more determined than teams are today.
I mean, maybe a team like the 1961 Bama team would shred through modern opponents like Indiana is doing in modern day. Who knows for real?

You do realize that you just disturbed a hornet's nest?

It's not too late to delete this horse-apple of a post.

Chicken should implement a rule that you can't start a post if you've been registered less than 6 months. It'd save us all from dealing with shite like this.

Limiting yourself to the not having the best players available based on race is stupid and has negative consequences.
Not really complicated.
Not really complicated.

I only hope that some real conversations can be had. Another subtopic of this thread could be how many modern day players could play through a game with broken arms or legs or after pulling an ear off of their own head so they didn't have to come off the field?
For goodness sakes, a player today gets a hangnail and they flop out on the field until an assistant can come out with some clippers and take care of him.

Of course this shite is coming from a Bama fan.
New Year’s Day must have been the worst day in Alabama since Brown v Board of Education.
Here is something incredibly relevant.

integration was sparse in the 70s due to both sides not really being comfortable with each other
that changed in the late 70s
in the 80s Auburn has its best decade, Georgia has its best decade up to that point
Miami becomes a decade long dynasty by embracing best player at any position regardless of race, the first team to copy them is FSU who become a multi decade dynasty
you can track the SEC's quality surpassing the Big Ten's as integration becomes the norm in the south.

Dynasties were also around before integration. I'm not sure what the point you are making is.
auburn and Georgia may have had their best decades after integration but, many teams have had great decades both before and after integration. They dominated in both eras.

you can literally watch the entire league get better from the late 70s onward
integration led to depth and talent that made the SEC the best conference for decades
you're arguing not with me but statistics

someone who can speak with small words and having more patience than me explain to this person the before and after status of football in the state of Florida as it relates to integration

Percentages are definitely not your thing (IU Roster)

Of course it is. But that wasn't the question. The question was are the best players necessarily modern day players just because they are modern day players?
Did integration really revolutionize college football or was it just another continuum, another step in another direction as things occur over time?
Watching a team like Indiana storm the competition and obliterate opponent after opponent, with mostly white men on the team, makes one wonder if integration was the real turning point it has been made out to be.
I'm not saying desegregation should not have occurred, it should have. My thoughts are were the effects of it really so consequential as it has been made out to be.

It is as different as night and day. The best players should get to play. I would say the long period of SEC dominance was because of it.
In basketball, UK won four NCAA championships by 1958. Lost the 1966 final to Texas Western. We won in 1978 after recruiting black players. Jack Givens scored 41 points in the final game. Any questions?

Thanks. I may have been a bit off on the %'s but, there are still an abnormally large amount of white men on the team compared to black boys.
No SEC teams have as high a percentage of white men as Indiana does.

You are stating that Kentucky won basketball championships both before and after integration but somehow the ones after integration are better? Is that your point?

Haha.
I think one of the biggest differences was is speed. The black players were leaving us white players in the dust in the open field. The big white dudes were solid in the trenches though.
