“Defenseless player” and hit him above the shoulders.
Dumb as frick rule, but it was called right. Abolish it.

That’s about as obvious as targeting as you’ll ever get.

How was he still defenseless. He caught the ball and was running with it. He's a runner at that point. Another terrible interpretation of the rule.

I don’t think he was defenseless- he had turned upfield.

What was he supposed to do dive out of his way?

No kidding. Defenseless player being dragged down from behind gets clocked right in the face mask by another defender. Easy call. The right call.

Yeah how the frick do you make a tackle there? He's low and you're in position. Maybe let him run through you and hope he trips?

The hit on Gunner was more targeting than that was.

I agree completely with you
The rule is dumb as frick and no way he should still be considered defenseless there. But he was, and that’s why it was called.
And we wonder why we get arm tackles or strip attempts instead of laying wood. Defenders are scared to defend, for good reason.

Called correctly.
Looked worse than it was.
Does the UGA player have to miss the next game?

No he will not. As it happened in the first half he will sit the remainder of this game. Should Georgia win and advance he is good to go next game.
