Joining a Conference will kill Notre Dame as a National Brand

ND plays 5 teams from the ACC each year on a rotational basis & four traditional games against Purdue, USC, Navy, & Stanford. In actuality, they only have three discretionary games each season. Future games with Stanford & USC are still in negotiation. Future schedules include Wis, MSU (26), Aub (27), TX, Ark, Aub (28), TX & Bama (29), Bama & Ind (30). ND is a national brand, not a regional brand like teams in the SEC. ND players are recruited throughout the USA, hence the need to have flexibility to play nationwide. With the exception of LSU, very few of the SEC teams ever leave the friendly confines of the South to play competitive teams in the West or Midwest. Why? It's not the fear of competition or cost, but the notion that there is very little gained in terms of exposure to highly prized recruits. For better or worse, we must acknowledge ND for what she is and base CFP playoff positioning on her football performance, not conference membership.

Why does ND have to be a “national brand?”

ND hasn't won anything since a split title in 1988.

Wrong. Notre Dame is phenomenal brand which would continue to thrive if they were a member of the Big10 or SEC. They are just greedy and don’t want to revenue share. It’s a business decision that bit them in the arse today.

Yeah, and this whole skipping a bowl game because their feelings are hurt is not going to play well for quite a while

I accept your terms.

With 9 conference games in a season I wonder if teams will be less willing to schedule them anymore and forcing them into a conference.

Wasn’t a shared title in 1988

Why reward ABC/ESPN with high ratings by participating in the Pop Tart Bowl.
