Miami beat FSU. Miami is the only ACC team with a record good enough to represent. Most of all, they don’t have three losses, including a blowout loss

Alabama lost at home, on homecoming to a team that lists its kicker as their top offensive theat.
Let's not forget that Alabama is very close to missing another playoff, due to Oklahoma.

And Alabama needed a red zone fumble at the end of the game to hang on for dear life to beat that 7 loss, interim coach team. That doesn't exactly scream playoff statementwhen they needed a playoff statement.
The fact is, Alabama looked mediocre down the stretch. Barely beat LSU and Auburn, two teams who had thrown in the towel. Get handled at home by an Oklahoma team with glaring flaws. And then got blown out in the SECCG to nullify the biggest hook they were hanging their hat on. Add all of that up and you can't say the opening day loss to a crappy FSU team was a fluke anymore - it's officially a reflection of a team that's not deserving of a playoff spot.
