The “boring mascots” thread seems to be laying groundwork for the offseason. Since we are done for a few weeks, thought I’d chime in.

Technically, all SEC mascots are edible. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should, though.

Ranked roughly in order of social acceptability.

No brainers
Arkansas
Texas
South Carolina

Acquired taste
Florida

Maybe not (commonly) in this country, but JD believes it’s an issue
Mississippi State
Georgia
Texas A&M (Reveille, as opposed to a farmer)

Mountain Men would have (slightly less “protected” than below)
Kentucky

I’ve lived in Asia. They’ll eat them.
LSU
Mizzou
Auburn (We’ll leave the eagle out of this.)

One bite at a time
Alabama

Dahmer menu
Oklahoma
Tennessee
Ole Miss
Vanderbilt

Oklahoma - Boomer and Sooner are two matching white ponies who pull the Sooner Schooner, a Conestoga wagon

The federal government that does not allow horse meat to be sold in the U.S. via the Federal Meat Inspection Act though it is legal to consume it if you can find some.

I think Reveille needs to be in her own category above the bulldogs. Feel like she would taste better.

Some of these are judgment calls as to what should be considered. You'll notice that I spared Smokey in the above.

In this case, I was going with the actual origin of the term, i.e., a settler that jumped the gun during the land rush.

On the other hand, if we go with your designation then we could have a "French/Balkans cuisine" category.

You're getting close to making this a BBQ thread. Don't light that fire. It gets ugly fast.

I don't think this is consistent with your categorizing A&M into the dogs group.

All I really ask for here is consistency.

Is that too much to ask for?

Well lets say you're in a Donner Party situation. Which human mascot do you eat first? I think you leave the Volunteer for last because he is helpful at least and can maybe hunt for food.

So, what are you arguing for?

Going fully barbaric and eating a horse, or keeping the 4 humans (and possibly a 5th)?

Clearly A&M should be with the other humans. Your agenda here, to boost your own school's edibility ranking, is obvious.

Used to hang out at this pub owned by a Brit. They had the best hamburgers around. He came up and spoke to me about my food and I said that’s probably the best burger I’ve ever had. He said “bollocks the best burger you’ll ever eat is back home and made of horse”

Is making a group you belong to more appetizing to eat really a goal to pursue, though?

Most Aggie fans would prefer a mouthful of the latter.
