What do you think about Courtney Morgan’s take on recruiting?

tl; dr:

- hitting on huge 5 star littered classes doesn’t really mean much anymore
- money that would go to big targets that end up MISSES doesn’t matter much either…that goes towards retention of current roster
- retention is a priority since depth is at a premium in the NIL era
- ideal class is 20 or so (at least for Bama) with portal to fill holes**

**the above may only be true for a big brand like Alabama, as logos like the script A carry a lot of weight regardless of the coach behind it.

I hate where this is headed. I’m just waiting for the first team to go on strike for more money and/or player minimum pay. Without a players contract I think it’s unavoidable. No matter what you pay players, it will never be enough to satisfy them.

You have to appreciate their honesty. I don't really think I've heard college coaches or GMs directly talk about their approach or give details about the state of the game and how they plan to blend recruiting and the portal.
