Read this nugget in ESPN’s article on the Kiffin saga.

Sounds like UF officials either incorrectly anticipated that they would say no, didn't want to deal with it so they used the possibility of that as an excuse or didn't push for it.
And it all sounds pretty odd, because for all his faults there was no reason for the SEC to "not allow" Kiffin to be an assistant in the SEC in 2014. He hadn't been in the league for 5 years and his NCAA issues at Tennessee were relatively minor. There wasn't any legal stuff.
