We ran the gauntlet and finished with 10 wins and 2 competitive losses on the road. But somehow the committee puts Texas over us, and just 2 years ago Sankey insisted Florida State get bumped in favor of Alabama. Where is he now? Has a back door committee decided 5 SEC teams in the playoffs is enough? Oh joy! Tulane, BYU or maybe JMU get in but we stay home.

I agree. But Vandy will become a legit threat that the committee cannot ignore before long.

If yall actually land that QB its on.

Yep.

Put Vandy in any other conference besides the Big18 or whatever the frick # it is now and they are in the playoff because they would have stomped all season

Texas beat Vandy.

But I agree about the Tulane, BYU and all that.

This guy and/or guys, because it may be a twin pack of douche, can definitely ruin a good baseball game.

Vanderbilt had a great year.

100%

I’d also like to see them in the playoffs..

That being said, Vanderbilt is 7th in the SEC standings. That makes it almost impossible with only 12 teams.

The 9 game schedule should help prevent this from happening going forward.

We really need someone like Kenpom or Bart Torvik to create football rankings using openly-disclosed algorithms.

The objectivity from human beings is natural and unavoidable, and realistically any of us can only watch so many teams, compare so many metrics, etc.

There can still be a committee of nerds that review the algorithms after each season and publicly propose changes.

ETA: And I'm saying do away with all AQs, just use the final rankings to seed the top-whatever teams.

You guys should be used to this. Or maybe not, I don't know. But it's a common fact amongst the smaller schools that officiating and selections both are biased to larger TV markets within the SEC and the nation at large.

If someone were enough of an autist and had the patience (I do not) proving this with the use of AI wouldn't be very difficult.

Q. Vanderbilt finishing 10-2 in the SEC, what is it that makes Vanderbilt be ranked so far below other 10-2 SEC teams and even below a 9-3 SEC team with Texas?

HUNTER YURACHEK: The committee has a great deal of respect for Vanderbilt and what they have achieved, an amazing season, a 10-win season. When you look at their schedule, now that Tennessee is no longer ranked, they just don't have a signature win. They've got wins against LSU, Missouri and Tennessee. Missouri and Tennessee were previously ranked in our poll. They are no longer ranked in our poll. Then the two ranked teams that Vanderbilt has played, Alabama and Texas, I think both of those games in their own way were a little bit different. The Alabama game is probably a little bit closer than the score indicates, and the Texas game was probably closer than the score actually indicates because if you remember, Texas was up in that game 34-10. I think it's just lacking that signature win or two that teams like a Texas and a Miami, Utah, teams above them have.

This is just the best. Essentially you beat Tennessee by too much and knocked them out of the rankings so now it doesn't count.

You're Vandy. You'll always have the reputation of being a shite football program. One 10 win season doesn't change the perception. Not sucking every year will.
