Doesn’t the Transfer Portal Open Five Days After a New Coach is Announced?

So does that mean it opens for most of the schools with new coaches this Friday? Next week is going to be nuts with players from LSU, Auburn, Kentucky, Arkansas, Ole Miss and Florida all eligible to jump in the transfer portal.

What are some big names who will bail?

When a head coach leaves, a 15-day transfer portal window opens for players, but only after a new coach is hired or announced. This new 15-day window replaces the previous 30-day exception and has a five-day waiting period before it begins

Opens for 15 days, 5 days after the new HC is announced.

I’m assuming to give the new HC time to talk to the players.

When exactly does the clock start? For example, LSU announced Lane Kiffin would be their new coach on Sunday? So does that mean the portal opens Thursday? Friday? Or would it be five days after the official press conference?

Either way it is soon. But I want to make sure I am stocked up on popcorn before the fireworks start.

All these players that are actually good SEC level players need to head to UF.

Doesn’t open until Jan, even for programs w coaching changes over the last few weeks.

From an on3 story from October:

“ On3 has learned the NCAA has sent guidance to schools that the portal window for when a new head coach is hired starts five days after the coach is hired, provided that occurs between January 2 and June 30.

For example, if a college football program hires a new head coach on Nov. 25, the portal would not open until Jan. 2. But if a program makes a coaching change in the spring and hires a new head coach, players will not have to wait as long as the hire is made before June 30.”

Of course, all the meddlin’ and interferein’ be happening now. Just gives new coaches getting hired now a chance to come in and make their pitch (and line up the bag$) for longer than 5 days.

I think they saw the feeding frenzy that happened when Saban left and this is some attempt to mitigate that for the P4 teams.
