Winners write history but at the end of the day that was still a bad decision no?

Was like that Auburn-LSU game where LSU only needed a field goal and threw a 20 yard TD with 2 seconds left on the clock.

Football 101

If it works, good decision

If it doesn’t, bad decision

of course it was. The fact that it worked doesn't make it less of a bad choice. Similar to les miles at the end of the 2007 auburn game.

incredible result. Awful decision.

eta: I see a few others had the exact same thought ha

Same a decision by Kirby in Texas game to go 4th and 1 . It worked and we ended up scoring that drive but high risk.

Considering how bad the kicker had been in big kicks this year.

It's not slam dunk.. Coach DeBoer has gone for it 100% of the time in that situation. He is consistent

Nope. Difference in 7 and 3 is huge, as shown by the fact that they would have undoubtedly slowed down and kicked a FG to send the game to OT on their last drive if down 3 instead of 7. We're very good in those situations - trust the QB and WRs, Grubb has an arsenal of unique play calls that have worked all season in those exact spots. Georgia on 3rd down to win the game, Missouri on 4th down twice, South Carolina on 3rd down and the 2 pt conversion, Tennessee on 4th down.

And, if the worst case scenario happens, you don't get it, they start a drive at their own 3 with 3 minutes to play. They were not running the ball well and most of their offense was Daniels running out of the pocket and either scrambling or throwing off of it, which they are very unlikely to want backed up inside their own 5. You trust you defense would get a stop and give you the ball back with 1:30-2:00 left in their territory with another shot to kick a FG.

Had absolutely no issues with it. Going to overtime would have been a disaster with our placekicking situation. You only decide to kick that FG if you feel like OT is at worst a draw for your team, and OT would/will be a problem for us against most opponents. Getting 6 there and forcing them to have to drive the length of the field and score a TD was crucial.

Wait until Kiffin goes for it on 4th and 15 from his own 23.

It was certainly a reasonable decision. Auburn was able to move into field goal range on its last drive, so the game likely would have gone to OT had we kicked it, and Auburn probably had the edge in OT at home with a running QB and Jam Miller out.

Going for it with the knowledge that Auburn will be pinned deep if you fail is not a bad choice considering there was plenty of time left and Auburn had all three time outs.

Hard to say. Even with Talty making his two previous, him lining up in that situation would've made me a little nervous.

Also, there is a big difference in Auburn having the ball at their own 6 in a tie game if they had stopped it versus having the ball out at the 30 or so with the urgency of knowing they had to score. I think it just changes the way the game is called.

This undoubtedly rears its head again at some point.

If you swapped kickers with OU they might be 7-5 & you might be undefeated lol.

I forgot which game but when that dude missed wide left into the west bleachers my wife laughed out loud. Shanked it so bad the ball was out of frame. Idk how that kid is on an SEC roster.

Well we'd definitely be 11-1. Cause short shorts killed us when we played and so did Talty.

I would have kicked the FG, but this is just who DeBoer is.
