If BV had a bad showing in the playoffs in addition to a bad 2026 season. Would OU still primarily target Josh Heupel. It seems his stock is at an all time low around here so wondering if anyone is going to try and buy the dip

Would Mizzou hire Heupel right now if they could? Im actually wondering what the general consensus is

Not a chance...parity with Drink....
He is a decent Coach though not sure if any SEC program would hire him right now.

Heupel is never going to coach at Oklahoma. He was never a target. He'll never be a target.

For the 1000th time, Heupel will never go back to OU

Serious question: will whoever follows Heupel be an upgrade or a downgrade?
He's better than the last three coaches you've had. Whether you fire Heupel or he leaves on his own, what are the odds that the next guy will be better?

well I stand corrected....
I should have said.."No University with any degree of intelligence would hire back a Coach they fired."
We are talking about arkansas....

All signs point to it being an upgrade. The program overall is in a good situation. However it would entirely be up to the coaching hires. When fulmer got fired the program was still respectable but the following hires were horrible. Theres no doubt that the program is a better brand now then when Heupel was hired. No real fan wants him gone yet but a repeat of 2025 in 2026 wohld not be good

Quite the hypothetical.
First off you said if Venables had a bad playoff and a bad 26 season. To get the tense correct you should have said. if Venables has a bad playoff……
Venables got OU to a 10 win season( so far) by taking over the defense and the defensive play calling. That is not going to change. What it has shown is you can win with a great defense and ST and average or less offense. Has to make you think Venables was responsible for the large part of Clemson’s championship years while he ran the defense at Clemson..
So for OU, Venables is the guy. We all know that now. Also it seems like defensive minded HC do very well in big games (Saban, Kirby).
As far as Huepel Sooners appreaciate his time as a player and the NC he won for OU. But from the OU perspective what Venables has going can’t be duplicated by an Offensive golden boy. So I don’t see any hypothetical where OU goes after Huepel.

With 5 SEC seasons on his resume, Heupel's stock is just fine. He's practically an elder statesman when the head coaches gather at SEC media days. The one negative is that he hasn't proven he can win a championship (and his appearance is not exactly the picture of health), but there's a very short list of active coaches who fit that criteria.
