Yeah, but what are the buyout details… feels like those will be important. Can you imagine paying Kiffin and Kelly not to coach in 4 years? Lol

Lane will be a lot easier to “fire for cause” and they’ll never have to pay a dime of that buyout. That’s one reason they wanted him, he has a lot of upside but he also gives them many reasons for an easy out in the future. The fact that Lane is too stupid to see it is funny though.

Sans paywall

Kiffin joined Smart and Ohio State coach Ryan Day as the only college football coaches to make more than $12 million annually before incentives.

One of these is not like the others.

From what some other LSU media sources have hinted at, there are incentives and escalator clauses that if Lane wins and has like say 4 years from now, multiple CFP's and say an NC, the buyout increases. But lets say 4 years from now LSU has had 8-5, 9-4 type seasons and no CFP appearances, the buyout does down.

So despite Landry going overboard with going public with his attacks BK's contract and Woodward, former LSU AD, he was in terms of the economics of the contract contract correct. Should be performance and incentive based . Seems like whoever worked on the contract got the buyout tied to performance.

So maybe Landry bringing to light the Woodward and BK Contract situation may actually cause more AD's to not sign deals that Woodward did.

This is being parroted on message boards but it is not true. Doesn't matter though. LSU got their man.

This is the way. Performance based contracts for college coaches. You get more if you ball out, and if you dont the buyouts decrease.

I don’t think the buyout is that big of a deal with LSU. Someone will hire him again if LSU fires him. He’s an offensive mind and still young. There will be a Kentucky, Arkansas, UCLA, etc out there that would scoop him up.

I’m more worried about Kelly finding work, he’s old and doesn’t have a specialty on either side of the ball that he brings to the table. He does have notre dames all time winningist coach on his resume. But I get the sense he ‘retired’ years ago and just wants to play golf.

A million dollars to coach per game. I'm sorry I know it's unpopular but that's a f-n joke and an insult to every fan and working man that bust their arse to make a living regardless where the money comes from. Many people are struggling to get by and they cheer on this crap. I don't get it.
It honestly makes me wanna root against all of them making anywhere near that much, and fwiw I always liked LSU after my hogs but damn, smh.
Some serious reforms are needed to say the least.

70-80% has become the normal now. Sexton wouldn’t allow for any less, I’m sure.

Not like I used to. I was a big fan until the covid and blm sht. This year probably watched a combined total of maybe 3 games, bits and pieces. Modern college athletics is on an unsustainable path.
