Couple of things I keep hearing said that's just stupid......

1. That Ole Miss should've let Lane coach the team until the end. No AD with any respect for his P4 school would've allowed that. I think a G5 could get away with it if the coach was moving to a P4.
2. That the reason Ole Miss could not allow it is because LSU and Ole Miss are bitter rivals. Again false. Does anyone in their right mind think if Lincoln Riley had OU in the playoff in 2021 and had taken the USC job before the playoff OU would've allowed him to coach the playoff? No way in hades is that happening.
It's like saying your wife should allow you to cheat with a ho she don't know rather than that ho she can't stand that she works with.

Nick went on a pretty good rant about this, and the blame lies squarely on the head of the NCAA really. The way they have the calendar laid out made this debacle like this a certainty.
I’m just wondering at this point if there’s some good OL who would consider portaling to Bama after their season is done. We could use em.

Nobody seriously thinks it was viable for Lane to be hanging out in Oxford for the next three weeks as LSU's new coach. LSU fans are just trying to portray it that way becuase they think it will make it seem like Ole Miss screwed Lane over instead of the other way around.
Lane had his chance to coach Ole Miss & he chose not to. He had to gtfo.

Lane wanted to finish what he started this year with these players.
Ole Miss would not allow that so he took the LSU job.
Why is everyone hating on Lane?

Andy Staples went over this. There's no way to fix the calendar.
Only thing I can think of is if you put a freeze on head coaching hires until after the season is completely done. Would that be legal?
Saban and Herbie are too smart to believe the crap they are saying right now.
Obviously doing this for the company their agents work for that also represent Lane.

I'm all for Lane cherrypicking players, recruits, and staff to bring with him. I do not expect Ole Miss to bend over and make it easier for him.

So he isn't supposed to take the LSU job at all?
Because he wanted to finish the season then leave for LSU.
LSu was ok with that as well.
No one is saying he is a victim. Y'all got it one sided because the hate for LSU and Lane.
Simple as that.

This isn't gonna change at all the look of Lane Kiffin coaching Ole Miss after taking the LSU job. That just wasn't gonna happen. "Guard rails" weren't gonna change that.
That would be a fix. I'd be okay with it.
I don't know. But can you imagine what would've happened had the Ole Miss powers that be had let Lane keep coaching?
The fans would've called for new leadership.
Everytime Lane's name was announced at a game in the playoff he would've been booed by the whole stadium, the opposition's fans and his own.
If he accepts the bowl trophy, he would be booed mercilessly.
The national title? Same thing.
And if he had won the National title, it would have been tainted for them.
In his interview with Marty Smith saying he hopes that the fan base can look back fondly at what he built there reeks of someone with no self-awareness.
As far as Saban and Herbstreit, they are clueless if they think he could've been allowed to stay. It's hard to fathom with either knowing how the fanbases in college football feel, especially in the SEC. That's just completely ignorant when you've coached in it for 20 plus seasons. Don't even know what to say to that.

I can’t see letting him recruit for LSU while coaching Ole Miss.
As someone else noted, the calendar is an abortion of nonsense in college football.
Portal open twice a year.
Endless transfers.
Lack of hard criteria established prior to the season for at large playoff spots.

It’s tough when you’re pretending that this is college sports because you have to align the sports calendar to the academic calendar at least enough for the players to pretend that they’re students.

That’s the kind of thing line employees say about management. “If management was smart, they’d see everything from my point of view.”

After observing the guy for a long time, my first instinct is to think he’s happy not having to see this thing through with Ole Miss.
I think he’s that immature.

Of course LSU was. Why would that be a bad look for LSU?

Lane is playing a victim here. His final statement says the kids wanted it. He wanted it. Ole Miss was protected. But still they wouldn't let me do it.

Have never had any hate for LSU. LSU is not my team's rival. Have pulled for LSU many times and usually in any bowl game.
I've thought Lane was funny several times over the years in his Twitter responses and such. No other coaches did that kind of stuff nearly as much. Now I realize why he does, but almost all others don't. He needs it.

Nick’s rant specifically stated nobody was thinking about the players. They weren’t, not that he should be allowed to coach (he fired Lane remember when he accepted the other job) but that changes need to be made to eliminate the problem.
quote:Which was Nick’s point and I agree. Putting the guard rails up works for the NFL, it can work for college football. And this debacle shows it’s clearly needed.

It's not just the recruiting. It would have been complete embarrassment. It's one thing to have your coach booed when his team is performing badly. It's a complete crap show to be in a playoff and your fans hating your coach. It's crazy that people can't see how much he would be hated. There isn't one Ole MIss fan that I've seen that wanted him to coach this team. Not one.
