I visited both A&M and UT as a high schooler.
At UT, I got followed around campus by a toothless meth head gentleman who waited for me outside buildings to tell me how "pretty" of a man I was.
At A&M, I got out of my car, and was blessed by the sight a very pretty blond girl in a shirt pink skirt as a wind gust blew it up right in front of me, giving my 17 year old self one hell of a welcome to Aggieland view.
I never bothered to send my application to UT. There was 0% chance I would have gone. Even if it was free.

For DECADES, Aggy has appeared on nearly EVERY list of the schools least-accomodating to the LGB folks. That is not something that makes me proud, but it DOES make the "Aggy is a fagg0t" posters look damned stupid.

I didn't apply to Texas, though I would have been accepted. Never had any desire. I know of 4 friends who are Aggies that had kids that were accepted to Texas but not A&M last year, 3 in Business and one in Education. BTW, 2 of the Business admits went to Georgia, the other two did Blinn Team at A&M rather than go to Texas.
This is just a dumb talking point. Texas has a very slightly stricter admission standard overall but since they accept by department you get a lot of stuff like the above.

I got into both.
Went to Texas for grad school. Was president of my graduating MBA class. At graduation, awarded the Outstanding Student award to another Aggie.
Was happy we could provide some leadership to the place.

This is bullshite. Most Aggies and horns are from families already oriented one way or another. Most Aggies do not apply to Texas. And most Texas folks don’t apply to A&M. They may apply just to see, but their affiliation happened when they were born.

maybe 20 years ago and before, when above-average students could reliably apply to the one they grew up rooting for and get in. too much competition these days not to apply to both. and another out of state SEC school for backup.
