LSU has usually had solid defenses. Not always, but usually. Can they fix Lane?

In my lifetime, A&M was known for defenses. I was on campus for the original Wrecking Crew when RC was still DC. Blitz Brothers and all that.
When RC was HC, his offenses were usually life-suckers, but we still had defense.
Franchione neglected it and it eroded. Bigly. Sherman was a trenches guy that could at least field a stationary wall. Rumlin rode JFF and KK as long as he could, but it eventually caught up to him.
Then, we had that 6 year period with no coach.
Now, Elko is bringing back shades of the past.
My point: LSU has almost always had defense. Was not always elite, but never embrassing. Will they fix Lane, or will his "Just outrun 'em" strategy be the new normal there?

The man, the myth, the legend is bringing ELITE defense back to Baton Rouge. Book it.

Kiffin did say something in the offseason about LSU being unhappy with their secondary, so we just went out and bought the best players in the portal.
I don't think he likes having bad defense.
Also, this is not true. Just in the last few seasons, 2023 and 2020 were absolutely awful defensively.

Is that a requirement to work for LOLSU?

The two times LSU had a just outrun 'em type offense it produced two Heisman's and the greatest team of all time.
Give LSU Lane's offensive scheme with that roster and field a relatively good defense and LSU will be back in the playoff mix very quickly.

Why would anyone be scared of a coach with twenty years of being "okay". No championships. Nothing but a trail of broken programs behind him?

Looks like he would have been a great actor in Animal House
