A committee for 4 teams might have made some sense to pick up nuance that a computer might miss (eg FSU losing their QB)

But at 12 teams, you don’t need that crap. Instead we have a bunch of bureaucrats with agendas imputing a bunch of nonsense, moving goalposts, and referring to retarded statistics/arguments. It’s become absurdly subjective.

I will concede that ND would whoop that gump arse though.

It was on the struggle bus a couple of the years but that was just between picking #2 and #3 but even then it was right more often than not.

The CFP should just let the BCS determine the top 8 and go to town with no caveats

Yeah, but let's have better computers this time. Some of them weren't very good rankings.

You know why they won’t though, people would bitch about there bing 7 or 8 SEC teams in it every year.

That is the reason for the committee, the only reason.

Like it or not, rematches are bad for television. That’s the main reason they have the committee. If you had a playoff with more than half the teams being from the SEC, the network executives wouldn’t want it. I don’t necessarily agree with them, but that’s why

Any system that uses a ranking system to field playoff teams is by definition subjective.

BCS is calculated from 1/3 AP poll, 1/3 coaches poll, and 1/3 computer data. I don’t trust AP voters at all. The coaches poll is typically better but they have other priorities than to make rankings. The computer poll is ok I guess.

Could you imagine the uproar if that was a final BCS poll in the era and it was Ohio State and Indiana while leaving out an Undefeated SEC team?

I was ok with the BCS, but if we go back to computers I would prefer it to be just computers and a mix of SP+, FEI, and FPI - which have proven to be the most accurate predictive models

The BCS improved when it got rid of AP and replaced with Harris (which didn’t do pre-season rankings and waited till mid season). I was never a fan of the coach poll being included though, coaches are not watching any of the games being played other than their own and their next opponent. How the frick will they know who is good?

This is exactly why they were put out to pasture. They didn't spit out the rankings the humans wanted and they were retired. Will be no different if we go back to them.

12 or 16 teams is too many.
8 teams playoff would be perfect based on bcs ranking

Re: TT being 5th in the CFP over Ole Miss.

I honestly think the committee did that because they're trying to prevent a repeat Tulane @ Ole Miss game that we've already seen this season to the tune of a 35 point Reb victory.

As LLMs become more and more powerful and reliable, you will see some kind of computer rankings come back into the formula, just like you are seeing AI systems in officiating.

It's only Aggy.

Nobody gave a shite when undefeated Auburn was left out, why would we give a shite about Aggy being left out?

Both USC and Oklahoma had a vastly better SOS that year than Indiana does now too.

I dont think thats it, as they also put TTU over Oregon. They also put Miami over Vandy and USC

I think they are trying to throw a bone to the Big 12/ACC fans who (incorrectly) think its unfair how their conferences get ranked

As to Tulane... Whats interesting to me is that the tiebreaker for the american conference (they have a 4 way tie currently) is CFP rankings. So by putting Tulane there, they basically guaranteed them a spot in their CCG instead of Navy (I believe North Texas will be the other team given H2H results)

My question with the computers is what items are they comparing (in other words, how do they determine what’s “better/worse” than something else…or are those not given)?
