The board's obsession with Lane Kiffin is weird

He has accomplished less than Brian Kelly and is not even a young guy anymore

Programs are looking for an answer. There are only 3 head coaches in the FBS that have won championships, with 1 being in the tail end of his career. If your barometer for “who should we hire?” is “Has won a national championship as a head coach”, no one would ever get hired.

My barometer would be someone that is an anchor, very successful as a coordinator, very successful as a coach over a few years without crazy superstars and can recruit for the program. Also, consider who they’ve played in their schedules and allegiance to the school. I’m satisfied with who we have, but feel sorry for the rest that have to settle for paying some coach 15x their worth that isn’t really tied down.

I agree. He has failed every time he has been at the helm of any major program.

(Sorry Ole Miss)

Kirby wasn’t a head coach of an SEC program on their way to the playoff. Nor is Kirby near the attention whore that Lane is and doesn’t work to cultivate the mystique around himself like Lane does.

I’d say Dabo. He hasn’t adapted to NIL well.

Just remember that when LSU idiotically named 0 as HC, he did not have the resume for the job and his biggest claim to fame was being the worst coach in Ole Miss history.

I think people are just hopeful that Lane can do big things at the right school.

Personally, I don’t want him in Red Stick, but I definitely want him in the SEC because he can be quite entertaining. And very polarizing.

Has nothing to do with NIL. He isn’t a good coach, never was. His success is currently the head coach at Oklahoma and Virginia. He has a roster of top 5 talent in the worst power four division in college football.

I've never thought of it this way. This is fricking huge news if true.

For the same reason people talk about Kanye.

He’s been the subject of 3 major programs. His name is already out there.

Kirby was not a HC when we hired him. Lane's been a HC for over a decade and has not even won a SEC championship. Kirby won a SEC championship his 2nd season, and a NC his 5th.

See the difference here?

Kiffin is pretty close to this. I’m not really sure who else fits this criteria right now. I think that’s why so many schools want him. Having 3 SEC schools fighting over an SEC head coach is going to drive discussion from SEC fans more than anything else until the decision is made
